On Wednesday of last week, I logged onto my Chase account, and while in it I saw that I was already approved for both the Ink Preferred and the Ink Premier cards. I debated for a few days whether or not to go for the Preferred card. 2 years ago I wanted the Ink Preferred but didn't think I could natually hit the welcome offer spend of $15,000 in 3 months. I ended up going with the Sapphire Preferred instead which only required $8000 in 3 months.
I got my first Chase Credit card in February 2020. Ever since that approval I have routinely checked the Just For You section every month for any credit card Green Star and Black Star offers. For the last almost 5 years I have never received any of those types of offers. So I was pleasantly surprised to see these offers. I wasn't even thinking about applying for this card before getting this offer. I didn't want to skip it though, since I have no idea if/when I'd get one again.
I applied and the weirdest thing happened. After submitting the application, the message appeared that they were processing it, but then the screen turned white and was blank except for the "Close" button. I had no idea if I had just gotten approved or denied. I checked my email and my account multiple times, but didn't get any updates. Ended up calling Chase. I was told I was denied for having opened too many accounts in the last 2 years. I knew that on their end they were showing me as 5/24, but technically I am 3/24 and the other 2 cards I'm an authorized user on 2 of my wife's cards.
I spoke with a rep who handled my reconsideration, they asked me questions like: why do you want this card, what do you plan to buy with them, will this card be for the same business as your other 2 Ink cards? After about 10 minutes they said that the application will need to go through an additional review and that they would reach a decision in 48 hours. They said I can call back in 48 hours or wait on a letter which will arrive in 2 weeks or sooner. About 30 minutes after hanging up I went on my Chase account and saw the card had been approved and that I had a $5000 starting limt. I called back to Chase to see if they would be willing to expedite the card and they gladly agreed to expedite it. They said it will arrive on Tuesday. With me applying late in the afternoon on a Saturday I was happy with that news!
-They only pulled Experian. I had both Experian and Equifax unlocked because in the past they usually double pull me. My CSP was the first time they only pulled Experian. I had applied for that in branch. All my other applications before this were online and were double pulls.
-Experian Fico 8 was 805 at time of application. Dropped to 803 afterwards.
-I am 0/6, 1/12, and 3/24 on personal cards (excluding my wife's 2 cards I mentioned.)
-Application dates for the cards in my 5/24 scenario: My 3 cards showing were the CSP 4/2023, US Bank Shoppers Rewards 4/2023, Wells Fargo Attune 6/2024. My wife's 2 cards were the Capital One Venture X 9/2023, Navy Federal Platinum 11/2023.
This is what I saw after submitting my application!

@cashorcharge Thank you!
Yes, I pulled up my Chase account in the middle of reading your narrative. Did anyone else? LOL
I'm sure you did a double-take when you saw the blank screen. Yikes. Good thought to contact the recon line and work out a deal. Congratulations!

@URHomeInvestments Lol! I don't blame you for checking your account! I would too! Thank you! Yes, I definitely did do a double-take! Not to mention, most sites shen you apply for a card, warn you not to refresh or resubmit the application! I just sat there for a moment unsure what else to do but call! Glad it all worked out in the end!
If you don't mind me asking, how do you have both Best Buy credit cards? (Both the regular store credit card, and the Visa version)
