New Business Cell Phone

Did any one try to get a cell phone for your new business. What steps you have to go through with them and what criteria do they use for approval. I have one business account with a carrier for last 15+ years and that account is grand fathered with them. I am promoting a new business and want to get a separete business account for new business and cell phone to go with it. What carriers did you try and do you have any recommendations?

Re: New Business Cell Phone

I work in the industry. Our credit checks aren't very stringent on the personal side, so if you opened the account as a sole proprietor it may be easier depending on how the business credit looks. Although they do not share with us frontline folks which bureau they pull for biz apps, it seems that they are more strict unless you have a well established business with solid credit. The other thing is that at times, with well established businesses in our community we are able to plead our case to a regional manager if the business owner is presented with a deposit to open new lines of service. Usually a business can have human eyes brought on the application and strings can occasionally be pulled. I would definitely go to a retail store if you are able. Make sure you go to a company owned store, and not an authorized reseller, I promise that can make a huge difference.

Hello @Ficoproblems247 Thanks for the reply to my post. I am working with District Manager. He said he will sell me a phone and setup new business account. I have one business account with them now that is in excellent condition for last 15+ years. I could add more lines to that old account. But I am more interested in setting a new account for my second business and start building the credit for it.  I am bit hesitant with a steep $70/month for one line with unlimited data. I am thinking. I might go ahead and start the new business account and get one new line to start with. Once I got the new account setup and build relationship, I am planning adding another 4-5 new lines on that account. I guess that is cost of starting a new business and new line with them.

Re: New Business Cell Phone

Not sure what state you're in but Spectrum Business offers mobile services. Credit check is a SP on EX. You have to have a internet subscription to get mobile, but the cost of the cell service is flexible:

  • $14/mo per line for by the gig (which is great when you're just starting up)
  • $45/mo per line for unlimited 4G
  • $55/mo per line for unlimited 5G

I'd say start with the $14/mo plan and move up as the business activity grows. It's no contract and they offer up to 10 lines per account, and you can mix rate plans. When you get by the gig plans the data can be "shared" between users so if user 1 doesn't go thru theirs, but user 2 is going to exceed their gig, then it will deplete user 1's plan before charging the 2nd gig, another $14.

Only reports to business CRA's if defaulted. Just depending on where you're at with the business you'd find this is a good option

Re: New Business Cell Phone

Do you need anything super formal? If you only need multiple numbers but not multiple handsets I recommend looking into VOIP services. We have multiple numbers and they usually only cost a few bucks a month to maintain. The most infrequently used VOIP lines are <$2 a month. Doesn't always require internet either. If you already have a cell phone you can configure passthrough calling as a fallback.

For a single user something like Google Voice would probably suit your needs. It's basically free for one person last time I checked.

Re: New Business Cell Phone

I setup my business last July and recently this past December got a business line with Verizon and I was approved up to 49 lines with no deposits.I just had to send them a w9 so they could verify I was a legit business. Got 3 new Iphone pro max and only paid for 2 of them cause they had a promo buy one get one. Promos always change. I was surprised my business bill is lower than what I paid on my personal account.

Spectrum or Verizon?  Good to know the details on business phone lines.  Thanks for posting for those of us who follow in your steps.

Re: New Business Cell Phone

It is Verizon, honestly getting business lines with them was very simple. After I sent the forms needed he had me approved like 10 minutes later and said pick what you want and it'll be there in two days lol. Just in case anyone wants to know pricing. I have 3 Iphone 11 pro max (64gig I believe) on the plan with unlimited everything and with device payments it is 211 a month,
