4 Charge off's but good scores... help

Hi!

I basically want to know where you think I could get approved unsecured...

have been keeping low balances lately to up my score, and want to have a cc to rent cars...etc...

had a $5K secured card for 1 year, just closed late Feb... had very low utilization 1%, paid on time...

got a SECOND pre-qualified letter from Credit One Bank for $1500... but they charge an annual fee $75, then $99... looking for no annual fee if I can get it...

on the pre-qual Discover site, it used to say we have nothing for you, now it brings up the IT but no other card "offers"...

have secured $500 loan, have made 3 on time payments...

TU 706

Eq 661

Exp 656, only Experian has 1 medical collection $82

Got denied for AMEX Gold Delta SkyMiles mid-January... said my Experian FICO was 561... this FICO stuff is much different than the Experian 656 I'm seeing...

they said "serious delinquency and derogatory public record OR collection agency record"

"too few accounts currently paid as agreed"

"ratio of loan balances to the loan amounts is too high"

"number of accounts that have or had a delinquency"

I have 4 charge offs (divorce):

Barclays 8/2015 $1079, past due $1488 (limit was $1000)... reports as Barclays, not the collection agency I get letters from about this account...

Best Buy (Citi) 6/2015 $512 (limit was $400)

Credit Union credit card 2/2015 $2164 (limit was $2000)

Credit Union bank overdraft 10/2014 $1132

CreditKarma says I have "Good" odds at

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card with $39 annual fee

and "Very Good" odds at

Journey® Student Rewards from Capital One® $0 annual fee

my sister just got approved for a Capital One with no annual fee and a Bankruptcy...

trying to get Barclays deleted for inaccurate reporting... they reported a late payment the other day after a 2 year old charge off in collections!

Thank you in advance! Smiley Wink

edit: just thought to write a Recon letter to the AMEX Delta gold skymiles card... it's $0 annual fee first year, then goes up... ugh

Go for the Capital One Platinum. I got a card from them with a 7000 dollar charge off from them on my credit report.

Can't recommend barclays if you have a CO. They pull Transunion… bummer. Id try a synchrony card. If you do shop at walmart and don't care if offered a store only card… you might get the mastercard with over 700 tu. I was approved for Chevron visa and a Ebates Visa with charge offs showing but mind you they are paid chargeoffs.

I definitely recommend Capitol One and/or Synchrony cards.

It sounds like you are using credit karma type scores ( fako scores) instead of fico scores.  Virtually every lender uses some sort of Fico score.

I would get your fico scores first and see where you are truly at.   A great place that is very inexpensive is CCT (credit check total).  It is an experian owned website and you can get your scores and reports for only 1.00

Just make sure you cancel before they auto charge your card for the full 29.95 if you chose to not keep the service.

Once you get your real fico scores you will have a better gauge on where you are and what you need to do.

Where are you getting your scores from? Credit Karma are not FICO scores. My scores are about 100 points different on CK compared to MyFico. If you don't have your true FICO scores yet, I would start there. Your best bet may ultimately be a secured CC, but you can try for the Credit One and Cap1 as well. Most importantly I would get those C/O's paid if you can.

Edit to add: I totally understand how divorces screw us over financially, mine definitely did (my ex husband was/is horrible with money). But once I got all the baddies off my report my scores sky rocketed and i was able to get cards I truly want. It just took some time.

That's awesome, I might try them, just saw I have "Very Good" chances according to credit sesame for that card
