60 day AMEX CLI

Unaware of the heirarchy of AMEX cards (order of difficulty to obtain) i stupidly applied for the SPG card after being approved for the Everyday card. Later tried for the green AMEX as CK recommended with "good" chances for approval (as they had for the Everyday card). I was declined also. The letter just came stating I was declined for the green because it is their policy not to approve an applicant who was previously declined on another app. How long do I have to wait before applying again & have I ruined my chances of the 60 day 3x CLI? Thanks.

Starting Score: 621
Current Score: TU 685 EQ 687 EXP 699
Goal Score: 700

Congratulations on the AMEX approval! I think you can re-apply for the Green Card again after 30 days. Or call the recon line and see what they can do for you.

Re: 60 day AMEX CLI

Congratulations on the approval. For future reference, CK is a terrible baseline to use for approval chances. Especially Amex as Amex pulls EX for applications and CK doesn't even monitor EX so...

What was your approval? Also, can you provide us with your personal data points too? Thanks and again, congratulations on the Amex approval!!

Re: 60 day AMEX CLI

EX score was 654 in early May when I was approved. Only a $500 limit but hit the 60 day mark 7/7 ish. Green card app was a couple of weeks ago.

Did they mention after 6 statements a CLI?  Sounds like you got in under their credit steps program or a skin of your teeth approval.

Denial for Green doesn't do much when you have existing cards.  I would never recommend picking up a Green though because it's pointless.  You pay $95 per year for a card that just does the basics for MR's and nothing else.

If you want MR's then go ED or EDP.  If you want a Charge card then go PRG for the perks.

Not sure what else you have going on in your wallet but, I would hold tight and just let things grow a bit before chasing after anything else.

Re: 60 day AMEX CLI

Congrats on the AMEX approval.  I can probably relate somewhat to how you feel, because when I first started out on here I learned a decent amount, but still didnt know some of the heirarchy either.

On the application page, if you scroll down a bit, there is a form you can fill out to see if you prequalify.  I was excited when I finally did, however my app is still in "processing" status after a week abd a half.   But if you want to guard your inquiry count, it may serve you to stick to prequalfied offer from the lender site itself.  Recommendations from anywhere, including Credit Karma and even this site, are not reliable.

If you want to google the "credit pulls database" (even though its part of a less than friendly/reputable board), there at times can be some good data, though it's often far from a complete picture.

Im not sure if you already said, but is there a reason you want multiple American Express cards now instead of grabbing one from another company and building a bit of a reputation with AMEX before trying again?  You very well may be fine to try again relatively soon, but you also might increase your odds if you build some hisrtory with them first.
