8 hard pulls — will this spook Chase & Amex?

I've heard stories of Amex balance chasing (I myself always PIF) and lowing spending power on charge cards due to excessive hard inquiries. Right now I have 5 hard inquiries from auto loan (2x), mortgage pre-qualification (2x), and personal loan (1x). In the next year I plan on applying for an Amex gold (which may or may not incur a HP), BofA Premium Rewards (likely HP), and Chase Sapphire (likely HP). How concerned should I be about AA from Amex or Chase solely due to hard pulls? My FICO 8 is 780+, FICO Bankcard 8 825+, spotless reports other than the HP's. Two of the HP's will be over 12 months old when I'm applying to BofA and Chase. Thanks!

If your utilization stays low and your scores remain over 750 you will not have a problem with a AA on either. Applying for a new card may be denied but I dont see a AA in your future based on what you posted for your existing accounts. They will balance chase if your utilization is high and your scores drop too low.

Thanks

I don't think you have much to worry about purely from an INQ perspective. Certainly, there may be other things in your profile that they could decline you for, however. Keep in mind, Chase's 5/24 rule is for new card accounts opened, not inquiries.

You said you were going to app for a new Chase Sapphire and you already have the CSP. You can't hold both the Preferred and Reserve at the same time as primary owner. If you want the Reserve instead of the Preferred, that's a PC.

BoA and Chase *will* be hard pulls, probably on EX but BoA occasionally likes to mix things up and Chase may pull a 2nd report.

The real risk of AA from Chase would be tied to your behavior after you applied for the card.   They sometimes get skeered and close a new card when they double back with their soft pull several weeks after an approval and discover that the approval came at or near the beginning of an app spree.
