Yep Simmons is picky and manually reviews every app. POI is required. Odd for a bank. But hey, they're Simmons First. They can do whatever they want. LOL

Thanks for the info! I'm not at 800 yet (guys from above) but one day! I'll decide if it's worth it over the coming months.

Re: 800 FICO: What to Apply for Next?

I've been over 800 for awhile now (at least on Experian) and one of the reasons I am is because I haven't applied for a card just because it's hard to get unless your score is 800+.

I suppose it depends on your goals, congrats on the impending score bump! Sounds like you put some hard work into your credit and it has paid off.

Maybe take some time and go over each card you would like, weigh the pros and cons.

I always think of a mattress when I look at the name of the Simmons card

Last App 10/14. FICO's: AMEX Ex 846, BarclayTU08 815.FAKOs:CreditKarma 775,CS score 771.BofA 5400,Target $5000,Barnes $8500,Amex $22k

You don't have to have 800 for Simmons. I think youdontkillmonkey was 750,760. It's a great low apr card. And of course it's prestigious. Smiley Happy

Yeah, I am considering many options (such as Penfed, thanks to Baller) and weighing all the pros and cons. Yes it's a funny name, I thought of houseware when I first read the name lol. My scores are plumetting currently but this was a planned, 2-pronged attack. Did not expect one of my cards to hit 2, possibly all 3 CRA's with a hard pull though. Waiting for TU to update to see if it has 1 or more hard pulls. Not sure if Barclay or Chase did the triple pull. Still this was a planned drop in points and by October I expect to be at 800 or very close to.

Re: 800 FICO: What to Apply for Next?

I've got to second the sentiment about not applying for a card just because you've hit a certain FICO score.  I've recently done some shopping for the cards that make the most sense for my spending habits, but prior to that I'd basically left things alone for long periods of time. My plan is to close the accounts I don't want, keep the ones I do, and just keep my eyes open for opportunities related to better rewards as they come along.  They've got to be pretty tempting at this point to get me to app, but I'm open to the possibility.

FWIW, all the hullabaloo upthread about Simmons made me go scope them out, but I'm not sure I see anything particularly enticing about it, other than the perceived exclusivity related to the difficulty of obtaining it.  Since I'm not interested in carrying a balance, the low interest rate doesn't hold any value.  Perhaps I am missing something?

When I was searching out cards that would work well, I shared what my major spend categories to see if there might be a card that would help optimize rewards.  I then investigated those cards and chose what I thought would work best for me.  I don't tend to carry cards for cache, I carry them for what they do for me - rewards like cash back, free airline tickets, etc.  So it's all about what works for you, personally.

Re: 800 FICO: What to Apply for Next?

I would agree that you don't have to feel obligated to app for anything just because you've reached a certain score. Presumably, you're going to maintain the score, so there's no reason not to just wait until something interests you if you cannot find anything at the moment.
