A question about 5/24

I've read some places that if Chase mails you stuff for CCs that are currently part of the 5/24 rule, it is possible to still get approval if you apply with the enclosed invitation code even if you've got more than 5 new accounts in the past 2 years.  I've been getting mailers for CSP, FU, and Southwest very frequently.  I am very interested in the Southwest Premier card, but I'm also over 5/24.

Does anyone have any data points to support that claim?  I've read a lot of folks going to a branch for approval for CSP, but I haven't seen nearly as much regarding mailer invitation codes for flagship or co-brand cards.

Most sites have reported that mailers do not get you past the 5/24 rules

Re: A question about 5/24

ive read countless chase 5/24 experiences in which people are furious because of getting declined. said it was chase's fault for sending misleading offers. My recommendation is if you know you're over, then don't do it until you are under it.

Re: A question about 5/24

Thanks folks.  Chase Southwest will have to wait till around Jan/Feb 2018 it seems.  Not a big deal, though--I recently bit the bullet and took 5k from my BofA Travel Rewards and opened up an Alaska card.  Looks like I will primarily be on Alaska/Delta for a while (man, I hope their partnership doesn't go away with Delta getting more aggressive in Seattle).  Companion pass is a cool perk, even if it does still cost a bit.  30k miles and $100 credit after $1k spend is nice too.

Wait. I thought cobranded cards (e.g., Southwest) didn't fall under the 5/24 thing; did that change?

Yes, some co-branded cards now do fall under 5/24. This is as of some time in May 2016
Chase Sapphire Reserve. Chase Freedom Unlimited. Amex Gold. Amex Everyday. Discover It. Capital One QuickSilver. Bloomingdales. Victoria Secret.

It appears as though the IHG and Amazon cards are exempt from some reports I have seen, but research that for confirmation before applying.

You're correct.  Those cards do no currently fall under the 5/24 rule.  There several others that do not as well like the Ritz, AARP, Hyatt, British Airways and Disney

Re: A question about 5/24

Hi! I'm a new registrant, although I've been reading heavily for several weeks. It seems I'm an outlier/exception to Chase's 5/24 rule. About a month ago, I applied  cold (no mailer, didn't know then how to check for pre-quals) based on CK approval odds for the Freedom Unlimited card. I was approved instantly for $3.3k. I learned later (here) about the 5/24 rule, and it puzzled me. Although I can't recall the exact account opening dates, I can say for certain that between May 2015 and June 2016 I've opened the following credit card accounts: Capital One, Barclays, FNBO, Valero, and Neiman Marcus. Is it that the fuel and store cards don't factor in?

Welcome to MyFico

Its possible that they didn't count the Valero card (does it report to all 3 credit bureaus because if not Chase might not 'see' the card) or you just got lucky and they approved you anyways as it's entirely possible that you were pre-approved for the card even though you didn't check that page.  Either way congrats and thank you for the information.
