AMEX 14 day message - possible change product?

Hi all.

Applied for ED AMEX card yesterday. I was given the 14 day wait message - immediately after I tried calling.

I checked my status online - it shows up as the every day card.

On the phone, however, it asks if I am inquiring about the Everyday Preferred card, which I did not apply for - it was only the everyday.

Is it possible they want me to have the preferred instead of the normal one?

My Fico8 is 711 - I was denied earlier with amex this month for having a lower credit score. It was all because a card hadn’t updated I paid in full and my credit was down.

It updated, I checked my prequals. Delta ED and BCE. I chose Ed for the membership points.

Do you think it may have been a denial?
Is it a fraud alert maybe?

can I call them before tomorrow? Their agents aren’t available on the weekend.

Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you!

We can’t make a decision right now. We will contact you by mail in 14 days regarding our decision. If we need more information we will contact you.

And it’s stuck on “pending” “check back in 24 hours”

Re: AMEX 14 day message - possible change product?

So I’ve just made a couple calls

Earlier this morning I called the listed RECON number to see if they could update my pending status. They just said “the executive department are the ones taking care of this. They will contact you in the next 5 business days.”

I decided to call the AMEX CS line, got a rep - transferred to the new accounts line.
This time the lady was quite helpful.

She expedited my processing for EXEC dept - sent them an email requesting to do it faster.

But then she asked when the new card ships do you prefer one day expedited shipping or regular post?

Sooo am I in??? It seems like they just want some time to pass to see if fraud might be happening?

Either way - not even as a customer AMEX CS is awesome!!

You can check the application status page to see if there has been a change.  Hoping all goes well for you, OP!

Thank you! No updates as of yet...but a rep said they needed to "verify me" and I'd get a call in 3-5 days? Why in the world can they not just do it now????

This is starting to get really irritating. Amex if you’re going to make me wait more than a week for a denial I’ll be really mad!!

Fingers crossed but holy hell

Exercise patience OP. It works wonders! Keep in mind that like any other lender, AmEx has certain verification protocols they need to go through when processing any application, regardless of whether any "expediting" of the process was submitted or endorsed by the agent.

So, while it's doubtful they'll deny the application, if you keep calling it can also arouse a sense of suspicion.

I had a scenario that involved the 14-day pending/processing message not long ago. Eventually, once things were sorted out internally, AmEx reached out to me. But, I simply let the process take its course.

AmEx is worth the wait, much as the waiting sucks.
