Today I prematurely fell out of the garden after reading, reading and more reading...then going to creditcards.com and seeing an offer from AMEX after a SP of my credit. I know my chances of approval is 50/50. Online status says "in progress". I called for an answer, but they stated that a "special team" is working on my application and will send me an email in 24 - 48 hours. (In the past, I have always received an instant denial...at least I think so.)
I wanted to apply for the Green Card so that I could acquire two cards with one HP, now I'm too scared to put in another app since this was not approved yet. I know I should have waited until next year, but I couldn't resist the urge. What is a girl to do???
Same exact scenario for me. I apped on the 16th. still waiting on the special team - no approval, and no denial at this point. I called in a few times, and I was told to wait for a call... Im still waiting

Yep...I've called several times and keep getting the same response from each rep. The person I spoke with yesterday stated they would "expedite the process" and overnight my card for free. As of this morning, still no approval or denial. I actually spoke with a manager today and she stated that the department isn't customer facing (and apparently not New Accounts facing either) as she could not reach out to them at all and was only able to leave notes. She said that she hopes they contact me quickly since they have made several notes on the account.
I give up and will just wait. I'm not expecting any good news as this is AMEX and they've never liked my profile and my EX score isn't the highest, but l will update once I hear something back. I saw on another thread that AMEX is now offering modified terms to individuals who are improving their credit, but there was no mention of a "special team" in the post. Good luck to you!
So, I finally got a call from AMEX today, but I missed it and it went to voicemail... By the time I had the chance to call back, the rep. that had called me was gone for the day - I had a direct # to call for the rep. I'll call back Monday, and update then...
My experience has been the exact same as yours, so far..
Hang in there... at least it was not an instant denial.
I have 3 credit cards and one charge card with AMEX that were all approved this year and none of them were instant approvals. I did get my approvals within 24-48 hours.
