I have three cards with AMEX.
BCP-14K, balance right now is around $1,400
BCE-12K line and paid off
Delta Gold-10K line and owe only $200.
Ive been with Amex for around 16 months. Ive only asked for a CLI once on my BCE three months in and was approved for 5K more no problem. So, today I thought I would ask for 5K more on the BCP to get it to 19,000. Nothing crazy. It's been more than 181 days since last CLI. Surprise, it asked for me to link or send in 3 PDF bank statements. It also said if I don't respond by June 22, they will close my request. I just backed out and haven't don't anything yet. Should i be ok to just let it expire?? I'll just let it sit at 14K. Any thoughts? Thanks
You are fine if you choose not to submit income verification to AMEX. You current cards will be left alone and there will be no flags on your account if that is your concern. It just means that for the time being without submitting the information they are asking for AMEX will not grant any further credit to you. In the future it may be possible to ask again in 181 days and see that AMEX will not ask the next time around
An option depending on your credit needs is reallocating your limits around to suit your needs. For example if you wanted to transfer $5k credit from your BCE to your BCP that can be done. Just an example but it is an option for you
Thanks for that info. I was concerned about itflagging my account or something. Ive always paid on time, responsible spending, nothing crazy, so this just through me off guard a bit. I had heard horror stories of amex shutting down accounts for not providing documentation if asked to, don't know if thats true or not. When I applied with AMEX they never asked for such criteria. I was approved automatically first with BCE, then BCP, and Delta Gold. BCE and delta gold were all soft pull approvals as well once I was in the door.

For the bolded part this is the case if AMEX puts you under financial review which is totally different from income verification. With income verification it is voluntarily and has no lingering effects on your account, you can choose not to comply with providing the information they are asking for. This is your case and will cause no further issues with your account. You can request again in the future with no issues
With financial reviews AMEX has flagged your account with concerns ranging from payments to spending patterns/habits to name a few reasons we know. In cases like these AMEX places a freeze on your account/cards until they complete their investigation and in most cases requires you to send in financial statements or even submit 4506 tax records. Failure and/or refusal to comply after a set period of time results in your account being closed. Believe this also bars you from future apps until you comply with submitting documentation to them first
Good info in this thread. Thanks.
I was recently approved for a $10k Amex Delta Gold (SL 10% of my yearly income) and they didn't ask for verification. Not sure how much higher (or additional cards) I could go until they did ask... but at least now I know I don't have to give them verification. (I love the $10k limit and will probably only use 40% of it maximum in any given month)
Thanks for the info on the financial reviews as well!
Back in the old days when people asked for a CLI from AMEX if they wanted income verification they had to submit 2-3 years of tax records via a 4506-T request with the IRS. Obviously some people saw this as them overreaching by asking that much and rather than submit just be content with what credit they already had. I myself submitted their request for tax info years ago and it worked out but I can understand why someone wouldn't do it
Recently though they have changed their procedure and now are content with bank statements presumably to show deposits from job/investments/etc with regards to a steady income if a CLI request requires it. I say it's a fair compromise and AMEX probably saves the 4506 requests for the more egregious cases like possible fraud, MS and the like
That makes sense.
I gotta ask... does Amex auto CLI at all? Or only when you ask?

They will auto CLI yes. There is no sure fire way to trigger it but presumably spending on your card(s) will go a long way with them. That's not to say to start putting everything on your AMEX card in hopes of getting an auto increase. I would just let it happen organically and if it happens it happens
