Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

Right.

Even when i tried without social, just my name it would never go through. I would get the 7-10 day message and then cannot be added letter.

So my workaround was added myself to the business card and putting in my social when that one was received.

I’ve now added myself as an AU to several Amex cards and no issue. I’ve been putting my social since the beginning.

But i would have to wait 5 years from discharge from what I understand for my own approval.

That's pretty much where I am. I've never had an Amex card, but I won't get prequalification offers for another year and a half or so from what I've been told due to my 2014 Ch7 BK. I suppose I could cold-app, but if I understood correctly I'd probably be turned down at this point for the same reason, so might as well just wait until the end of 2019.

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

OP, just keep in mind that there are a couple components associated with the AMEX blacklist piece for your situation. The AU workaround doesn't really translate into being off the naughty list per se.

There's the presence of BK on your CRs in addition to having AMEX IIB. So, once the 5+ year period passes, that should give you an idea of where you stand with AMEX and possibly getting back in when you apply.

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

  • I have a similar situation - 2008 Chapter 7 (due to a combination of business issues and a major medical issue (wife's terminal illness).  Ten years is 10/8/2018 so I assume anything showing on my credit will fall off.  Burned Amex in the BK.  Current scores are 727 (Experian), 754 (Equifax), 814 (TransUnion).  I have various cards now, including Citi (Costco and American Airlines), Chase (United), Capital One Quicksilver, plus several Synchrony.  Citi and Synchrony cards have limits in the $15K range, Chase, Cap One, Discover about $7K each.  No late payments or any problems since my BK.  Any chance of getting off the Amex blacklist?  And has anybody in a similar situation been able to qualify for a Platinum (in my case annual income is about $158K)?

Re: AMEX Blacklist Question

If you apply for an Amex and are denied immediately because of prior history it doesn’t go on your credit report because they didn’t pull a report. So give it a try
