So my journey has been a bit bumpy- but I'm in an okay place. My score is at 700-715, I have basically all the cards I want (except those darn 5/24 Chase cards).
I'm coming up on a year of being in AMEXs good graces again.
I put a lot of use on my Gold/Platinum cards, I also have the SPG and Baby HHonors (both with 1,000 dollar credit limits)
In July I tried to get a 3x CLI on the Hilton card, got declined.
I attempted another today, and was told I tried too soon after getting denied. The CSR then told me I needed to wait another 90 days before even attempting to hit that button.
I just feel so aggravated. I'm putting 8-10k/month between my gold/platinum card, and have decent limits with other CC companies.
Another 3 months stuck with such small limits annoys me so so much. I have a trip to california and I'm staying at a Hilton, and I doubt the HHcard will even be able to cover the trip because the limit is so low. I asked if I could speak to someone in the reconsideration dept and I was told no, that it would be a waste of time.
When will I break out of this AMEX purgatory?
I was probably at the 680-690 range, I got approved for the SPG and HHonors the same day. The small limits make them nearly unusable at SPG/Hilton locations. Very aggravating.
All I can think of doing at this point is sock drawering them, and forgetting they exist because whenever I remember I think of them, and am faced with those CLs I get annoyed.
Even my Discover Card which graduated at 6 months like clockwork got a CLI to 1500, and a PC to the Cash Back card.
This makes me feel a little better, thank you.
I never *burned* AMEX, but fell behind when I was 19 or so and paid them back over a few months, but they still closed my accounts.
It never went to collections. This was back in 2007/2008 around there.
Being a spoiled 18 year old, I was not ready for a charge card, and the responsibility that carried.
Fast forward to now, after having to claw my way out of debt, and fix my credit, I am much more prepared and responsible with my finances.
Two of my goals was to get my AMEX and Nordstrom cards back again.
I rarely shop at Nordstrom anymore, but for nostalgias sake! (Nordstrom accepted me back already)
