AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

Activated my card January 1st. Figured today would mark the 61 days

I requested online and got the 7-10 day email. Checked my email immediately after and it said the review has been completed call this number to find out.

Called and they said it was denied for being within 60 days. She kept saying Jan. 1st - Feb. 29 is 60 days and I got a bit upset because today would obviously mark day 61.

She said she's going to put a manual review in.

Anybody know my chances. Am I in the wrong here? (other than the boneheaded move of not waiting couple extra days)

Despite what the CSR told you, whether you applied within 60 days, at day 61 or day 75, that was not the reason you were denied.  You can receive a CLI from Amex at any time from when you activate the card.  Sadly many Amex CSRs still think the 61 days has some meaning when it hasn't for over a year.  You can be denied for card being 'too new' but that just means that they want to see more history from you before considering a CLI.  If the denial sticks and is not overturned on manual review, you will need to wait another 91 days from the day you applied for the CLI to try again.

Also, keep in mind that despite what many think, receiving a CLI from Amex is not automatic at any time and they look at all facets of your credit file just the same as other creditors.

Re: AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

After reading the posts on this forum, I figured the 61 day rule was gone.

However the credit line (Not CSR) says the system denied it automatically for being within 60 days. That was the official reason.

This should go as a warning for anybody reading the previous "request CLI anytime after opening" messages

Re: AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

I spoke to 4 different reps about this and they all said That's the denial the system gave them. However I had them manually count the days and were in agreement it was 61 days as of today so they're doing a manual review and will let me know within 48 hours.

Re: AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

All that denial means is that they want to see more history from you.  Plenty of people still getting the CLIs upon activation or soon after.  61 days means nothing no matter how many CSRs tell you that's the reason.

Re: AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

Well I hope you're right because I would rather get denied for lack of history rather than submitting the CLI request 1 day early.

I'll update all after manual review.

Regardless of what happens upon review, you weren't denied because of one day so no need to beat yourself up :-). Even when you apply for an Amex CLI 'too early' like after a denial or approval, the clock does not reset and you can always try on the 'right' day.  Good luck with the review.

What SL did they give you? Usually it's a sign of what could be expected of a CLI request.

Re: AMEX CLI Denied (Within 60 days)

Odd, when I got my AMEX ED card back in November I asked for a CLI on day 1 and got it.  I received AMEX BC a few weeks ago and was denied a CLI, got the mail today and it said the account was under 60 days old as the reason for the denial.  Hard to understand what the rules are for AMEX on CLI's.

I tried today after activating my card and the denial reason was that my account need to be open for 60 days
