AMEX CLI denied?!?

So i was tolling along with my AMEX BCP card and CLIs.  Its up to $12k from an initial SL of $1k.  I always PIF and have never been late and have zero balance. Requested a CLI to $20k and was denied.  Reason was something to do with my high credit card debt.  I dont have any credit card debt though and my utilization is under 1%.  My only debt is a car loan that is at $20k but thats not new, its almost a year okd and I haelve had AMEX CLIs since then.  When I look at my FICO score they have its using a score from April 1 and I had a collection show up in error and it dropped my FICO 100 points.  Its been remived and my score is back up to 800s but the score they have on file shows April.  Im wondering if the denial was due to that showing up?   How long should I wait to request another cli?

you'll want to ensure your most recent monthly pull from them is clean

but you'll need to wait 90 days after the denial to request again afaik

Re: AMEX CLI denied?!?

You have to wait 90 days and yes, Amex uses 1-2 month old scores.

Re: AMEX CLI denied?!?

Once they have a clean report showing on their site, you can try the CLI request button and see if it will let you request a CLI.
Like others have said, you will most likely have to wait 91 days, but it doesn't hurt to try. Unlike other lenders, the AmEx link won't even let you request it if you are not eligible to make a request.

Back to gardening until Late February 2026.

I, too, was recently denied for a C:LI from Amex. I requested a modest amount, since I have a small limit- didn't want to spook them by asking for too much, and I thought I had better approval odds with a smallish request. NOPE. Declined. I'm rather disappointed, but it is what it is.

I wonder if they've been stricter lately due to the pandemic. Even though it's pretty much over, there has been ongoing economic issues, ad perhaps they're being extra conservative in anticipation of a recession.

Re: AMEX CLI denied?!?

I've been tempted to pull the trigger again.  Last June I did an increase and went from 15k to 30k.  In December I asked to go, Fromm 30k to 45k.  I did not get an outright approval.  They increased 5k to 35k and asked for financials, which I provided.

Not sure if it's been long enough to ask for more but I'm tempted.
