Decided to try my hand at Delta Gold Amex since my scores have gone up to 680 TU and 708 EQ. I was denied, so I asked to go to reconsideration. The recon guy said that my old American Express charge off, back in 2014, was showing as active. He said that they do not do a hard poll, if there is a history with American Express that's not favorable. So I asked him what I would be able to do in order to get back into American Express, and he said ID have to pay the balance off, that it isn't even showing that it went to collections (which it did).
oh well back to square one!
Yup, Amex won't even entertain the thought of a new account unless they're made whole again, regardless of whether that account is still on your reports or not. They keep their own internal records.
Also, Amex uses EX, not EQ or TU.

Did you pay it? Do you have, or can you get, proof that you paid it off? If it went to collections AND you paid it off AND you can prove it, Amex should update/correct their internal records. You'll need to provide written proof, so see what you can gather and then take another stab at it.

Although, sometimes things can fall through the cracks even with an unpaid CO, but as long as it remains active on their internal records it'll take years on the blacklist --- who knows for how long.
