I recently applied for a Delta Gold American Express. I have a "recovery" AMEX (OASIS) with a CL of $500 since 2006. I am also an authorized user on my wife's Delta Platinum. I figured what the heck and applied. AMEX pulled Experian which came back declined due to FICO score of 644. Hopping in the garden for two years.

1) Sorry to hear that you've been declined.
2) Have you tried calling and trying to recon the app? Maybe ask for a smaller SL that you'd be willing to build up.
3) Why is your EX score that low? Do you have a few baddies? If so, what and how many? ![]()

Sorry for the denial.. Hang in there. Wait for your scores to increase and you will be golden.
1) Thanks!
2) I have not, but I should! 3) I had some charge-offs later 2008/09'. 2 years of solid payment history. 2 charge-offs still on record with several "sins of the past" lates. In good time they will fall off (lates).

What is your utilization on all your cards and the utilization on your au Amex?
Does your wife have any other decent limit cards she can add you to that have some age, and utilization under 25%? That could add 30+ points to your score.
Are you aggressively disputing those old negative accounts to try and get some deletions?
Am Ex works better if you can apply with Ex Fico 8 bankcard scores in the upper 600's.
Hello,
I'm sorry to read about your denial. I am, you might think that I am not being sincere but last year I was so into this delta credit card. I was so afraid of getting denied that it kept me from applying. My sister noticed I was sad, really sad ( I shouldn't be since it's only a credit card right?) well, I traveled a few times in delta and saw how people used the card perks to travel. They get in first to the airplane, first bag free and they get points for buying anything while traveling or just simply buying things at the store. Anyways, my sister applied and got approved for the delta and she immediately added me to her account. She couldn't see me sad because of a credit card that I wanted to bad.
Fast forward a month ago, I had been reading and fixing my credit, reading about what others have done to improve their credit and I got to work. I was like, I better fix my credit because I can't just continue to depend on others to have a AU credit. Well, I finally got approved for a Amex Delta Gold my EX according to the approval letter than came in the mail with the card was 651 meaning you are not too far from that score.
Don't give up, just do what others suggested here and do whatever it takes to get those points to go up and you will be golden for the Amex. People here say that the Amex is the easiest Amex to get approved. I personally don't know that but I am sure it does opens the doors up for future American Express credit cards. I am personally not interested in any other credit card from them with the exception of the Amex Every Day. Other than that I am perfectly fine with the other credit cards I have. Each card serves a purpose and for airlines Amex Delta will be my only credit card.
Good luck, once again don't give up!![]()
The WorLd Is Yours

What were the reasons for the denial?
Sorry about your denial, dont be discouraged, your scores look good to me, but unfortunately for amex its not enough, wait a little be more and your score
will rise, and eventualy you will get , great offers, low apr, NAF, high CL,etc
Best of luck,
stay blessed![]()
I would say you are right in the range to get approved. I would honestly try to get a recon if you really want the card. I am going on a trip in February (which is my sole reason for getting the card) and I'm really excited about being able to use the perks! Just as a point of reference, I was at a 709 EXP score when I was approved.
