Just wanted to add some DP's:
@AverageJoesCredit This is in response to the comment about me applying for the AMEX CLI too early. Looks like they just didn't like my FICO score. So here is to 6/months or 181/days of waiting...

Amex can be interesting when it comes to CLIs. I've have a couple of cards that remain stuck after 2 years of holding them with decent spend.
If you don't mind me asking, what is your FICO score as shown by Amex?
In addition to what @Loquat mentioned above, what are the reasons listed in the AmEx FICO section associated with the score?
OP, you mention FICO9. I've always seen Amex to use version 8. Is this new or a typo?
Amd with essentially an identical score, I got the same rejection reason. Good news is you only need to wait 91 days after a denial. The 181 days is after an approved CLI.
I would not advise taking most "reasons" you get too literally. It could be THE reason, or A reason, or it might have nothing to do with their decision. In cases where it doesn't seem to make sense, like this one, I would guess it's the latter.
If I recall correctly, when you are denied, you can try again in 91 days. It is only if approved that you have to wait 181 days, or six months.
fwiw, I have always been denied for Amex CLIs since I started trying last December. A couple of months ago, I got frustrated and applied several times in a couple of weeks, and they demanded tax transcripts, which I will not do. So, no CLI for me, ever, unless/until they forget about that demand, which I think they do more to hinder requests than because they actually think they need it. I have $33K plus of total CL and two charge cards, with reasonably heavy usage, a total current balance of $0 and a flawless payment history, so I am a bit skeptical that they are REALLY wondering if I have the income to cover my spend. To be fair, my profile is pretty weird.

1. Proportion of loan balances to loan amount is too high
2. Lenght of time accounts have been established
3. Proportion of revolving balances to revolving credit limits is too high.

This was a typo! AMEX EX FICO 8 - 710
Well, we're twins eh! That's awesome news, I'll readjust the calendar notifications.

Thank you for the sound advice! 91/days countdown starts 11/27/20
@TheFIGuy, what's your current limit? The reason I ask is that cards with a 1k limit or below are notoriously hard to budge. If you start out with even a hair higher than 1k, chances of receiving a CLI improve tremendously.
In the past, 700 has been enough to keep scores from getting in the way. But it seems like that number might be inching up recently.
