AMEX Everyday Preferred Pending App - CSR responses have varied.

Last week I was feeling it with my 650 FICO scores across the board and decided to apply for an AMEX revolver. I have two business cards from them, the American Express Gold Rewards card and the True Earnings Costco card (with the latter soon to become useless since Costco dropped AMEX).

 

i recieved mix responses from 3 different CSR and I was wondering if anyone experienced this before.

 

I didn't get an approval or a denial, simply a message that said my application is under review.

 

Right now on the application status page it shows :

 

We will notify you once your application has been processed, or if we need additional information. If you wish to view an electronic communication of your decision details once we have made a decision, click here.

 

I also got an email that contained this message:

 

So I called them up 3 times today:

 

1st call was a female CSR. She told me my application is under review and I needed to wait 4-5 business days. I asked her what could be the possible reasons for such a long hold up and she told me it's because initially I probably didn't qualify but because of some certain factors or that I might have a history with American Express they are manually reviewing the application.

 

Here is where it gets weird

 

2nd call was a male CSR and he told me because I already applied for the AMEX BCE and was denied (WHICH I DID NOT APPLY FOR),  my application for the AMEX Everyday Preferred card was also declined and to wait for the letter in the mail. I told him I did not apply for the BCE and he told me to hold on. He then apologized, took my SSN once again and told me that I was right and I did not apply for the BCE but the application was denied and to wait for the letter in the mail.

 

My application status is still at "In Progress" so I decided to call one more time.

 

3rd call was a female CSR and she told me that another represenative has already took a look at my account. I told her I called back because a male CSR told me my application was denied and I wanted to know if that was the cause. She said it's still pending, under review and has not been denied. She told me to call back within 2-3 business days.

 

Thoughts?

I have been having horrible issues with Amex telling me 16 different stories but a different sort of issue. Have you called 1-800-576-8942? It's new accounts, you should try someone there but they're pretty much as clueless.

We'll see what happens I guess. Wait till the end of the week and see how it goes.

I got this exact message after applying for my 2nd Amex (Delta Gold) card. First card was the Amex ED (approved) about a month earlier. A day or two later, I got an approval.

Ive seen this message. it usually means approved. just a matter for how much. just wait it out.

How long did it take you to get an update? 4-5 days or 2-3 days?

about 3 days. was not bad. when i got my delta card. got that message. they came back with a 10.5k limit.  but my scores were not that great. the profile was ok. as i had 1 negative at the time. which was paid in full and 4 years old. think my fico was like 670

I went thru same thing when I appd for both Delta PLAT & BCP. My BCP sat "in process" for exactly 1 week, than the following Monday, exactly 1 week, the status page said: APPROVED.
I did initially call, but was told I'd get a letter in 3 or 4 day's. I never called again, instead, I just continued to check the status webpage everyday.
Give it 7 full day's.
