Have you applied for any other Amex-issued card in the last 30 days? 

Normally you can't re-app for the same card in a 30 day period, or your application will be deined upon review. 

What I've been seeing lately is people getting "in progress" and then eventually "declined" whether they've reapplied for the same card, or a different one. Several people have stated otherwise, but I've experienced this myself.

That's what I was afraid of. It saying In Progress and then saying denied. But I've never applied for anything AMEX related in nearly 7 months. Even if I did apply within the past 30 days, it's supposed to show the other card I applied for under the status page.

Isn't the preferred harder to get approved for than the regular? The preferred is definitely the better one with the 50% point increase after 30 trans plus it does gas too. 

They wouldn't prequal me for it and I was too scared.  Were u prequaled? What other cards do you have and what limits?

Here's an update:

The initial application got declined and the recon application got declined. I have FICO 3 credit bureau monitoring and I just realized that I had no new inquiries from American Express on my Experian credit report. They didn't do a hard pull on both applications. Everything I did last week from getting denied by Chase and getting approved by Barclays is up to date on my Experian report. I even have American Express's crappy CreditSecureMonitoring and my Experian report shows all up to date information except for inquiries from American Express.

So I called up the American Express Executive office told them what happened. They told me there are supposed to be 2 inquiries and they're going to get in contact with the executive head of the application reviwing team and call me back on Monday.

I'm going to obtain a fresh copy of my Experian report from FICO and see if it shows anything.

Just checked my fresh Experian report from FICO and it shows nothing from American Express.

And no I haven't applied for any other American Express card in the past 30 days or else it would've showed on my credit report and my initial application would've been instantly declined.

heads up. I live in illinois. amex did not use experian for me.... they used transunion.
