You should wait a bit, let the score refresh, and try to recon/reapply. I sucessfully reconed a gold card well over a month after the application date. You should be fine with your profile. I do have a BCE with them so idk if that makes a difference. As a member you can see when their monthy soft pull profile updates. I was denied once. then when I saw a 40 point increase on EX (who they, I think, only use). I tried to app again, was instant deny. I reconed for that app, and was denied again using the same score. About a week later I reconed the origional app and after about 2 days it said approved. Though I was dreaming when I saw it as I have always wanted the gold. BTW if you wanna just resubmit get someone to send you the 50k point refer-a-friend bonus link if you havent already!!! <MOD CUT REMOVED>. Have my fingers crossed for an approval for you!!!!
BTW congrats on your Venture Approval. Im in 7-10 day Limbo on my app. I think I may have screwed myself with my recent approvals elsewhere. Hoping for an approval of at least 5,000. Want that VISA Signature!!!
On the app if you go to account it should be listed under Membership. On the website you go to Account Services and under the Personal Details tab, under your email and password, it should say View FICO Score. This score is what Amex uses to determine eligibility. Some people say that this score can lag a few days from when you see the change to when the UW team sees the change. Mine normally updates about 3 days after statement cuts but I waited 15 after that date to actually request a recon on the Gold card. None the less, there is at least proof that recon after significant score change is possible with amex. Do note that Amex is very picky when it comes to recon. The person you talk to is worthless for your approval just be kind and inform them there was an error on your credit report and you took care of it and would like the application to be reviewed again. You never get to talk to the true decision maker, only the rep who submits it for review. All you can do is hope your new score is updated and it is what the review team sees. I was approved with only a soft pull because I did make it VERY clear that I did not want them to put a HP on my report over a recon. I guess the soft pull data was new enough becuase they approved. My FICO with them was 742 at TOA. If you dont have the link to look at your app submissions here it is. Make sure when you disconnect from your call you see your status change from DENIED to IN PROCESS again. If not, call back and request again. https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do
Thanks! I see where it shows the date and actually says this is the score they use. Wish I knew that before reapping. Would have held out until the end of this month since I apparently have a Jan 29 refresh
Amex can be really weird about approvals. I had no pre-approvals and cold apped. Denied. 9 days later I tried again after a slight score change, maybe 9 points, and approved.
