Just wanted to confirm that I was still on the blacklist and a prequalification directly from AMEX does not mean you are off the blacklist.
Denied due to previous closure of credit card/unsatisfactory relationship. No HP.

Being preapproved for a card or cards is not a reliable indicator that you are off the blacklist.
A denial upon application without a HP however is a reliable indicator that you are still on the blacklist.

I just wanted to confirm that was true (hence the application).
I applied yesterday. Status says pending, but I did get a credit check this morning. I wonder if I am not on the blacklist. In the past doing going through the prequal I get denied and if I apply I get denied but no credit check.

Good luck!
Part of the reason why I thought it might be different is because I have been getting denials in prequalification for AMEX for a long time. While the data might be true that a prequalification doesn't mean you're off the blacklist, but you never know as things may change. AMEX could potentially link that data on their backend to check if you are on their blacklist or not.

Thus far, there hasn't been any known changes with regard to the pre-qualification portal and their internal databases. As mentioned upthread, once the full application is submitted that's when the back-end cross-check process is done.

Well, at least no HP since this confirms you're still on the blacklist. Just keep trying periodically and *eventually* it's possible you'll come off the list 👍
