The AMEX BCE is my lowest CL of all my major cards at $2k. I believe I know the reason for the low limit, because I had a maxed out $14k limit with their Costco card for years that I suddenly paid off in November 2014. I did a recon immediately and was turned down. I tried again on April 13 and was again turned down. I was then told I have to wait 90 days, which I know is company policy and have it on my calendar for 7/13/15. I used the card a lot and now show a $0 balance. I went into a chat on the AMEX site and Jenny told me that normally it is 90 days but she was going to notate my account for a CLI right now and gave me 800-576-8942 and they would see her notes on my account. So, a few minutes later I called and spoke to a lady at that number, she took my info after reading the disclaimer, got my income info., asked me how much of a CLI that I wanted (I said total of $6k which is the 3x CLI). The lady on the phone said she was sorry but I can't ask for a CLI because it's not 90 days. I explained I knew that policy but was told that in the chat that Jenny marked my account so I could have a waiver to do it tonight. I knew it was a long shot, but sure gave me great hope that I could finally get a decent CLI and use this card and put on more than $200 (10%) at any given time. The rep said company policy is policy, and I assurred her I totally understand that, and I wouldn't have called if "Jenny" in chat wouldn't have told me it was noted for CLI. So, the rep I spoke to said she was going to escalate the call and with email to whoever and see if they will recon since I was given this bad information from the chat rep. I'm fairly certain this will be a sorry but you have to wait 90 days thing, but dang it they better get their acts together. This card will stay in the SD for a long time if no CLI by July 13.

Since when did 8k become 3x of $2000? And maxed out for YEARS?? I'm quite surprised that you received a second AMEX at all.
Sorry, I meant $6K. Yes, maxed out for years. My story is posted on myFICO if you would like to read it. I also had a maxed out Capital One Platinum card of $16,500 that got paid off one day last November too. They immediately approved me for the QS with a $10k limit. Not sure how old you are, but my hope is that you never lose a job and out of desperation trying to pay bills that you get into a similar situation I was in. I never missed a payment and by the grace of God I am now debt free. Tell me your story.
Good for you! I'm sure you will get a cli soon. Maybe call again and speak with someone else?

She said to call back on Tuesday to see what the final outcome is. I'm prepared for July honestly but I got that glimmer of hope tonight that I'd be able to put my AMEX in my budget rotation finally with a higher CL.
Sounds like a good chance! post on here what the outcome is.

Oh I plan on it. I told the rep on the phone I wasn't upset with her at all, but with the fact another chat rep gave me hope and told me she noted the account and to call in for the CLI.

Im 48, have been a registered nurse for over 21 years and although any one can have financial difficulty, AMEX is not one creditor who is known to allow maxed out balances for years without an AA of some type/denial for more credit. It's awesome that you are currently debt free but remember, you can always put more than $200 on the card and just pay it before statement cuts. Good luck with the outcome.
Oh I know, but that's what I personally do. I only let one card report each month and all other cards get paid before their close dates.
As I said in my original post, I'm fairly certain I know why the low limit, and that was because of the Costco VISA card I got in 2000. I also know that they're aware of my diligence and good pay history with them which is probably why they offered this second chance.
I hate that when you speak with someone and then you call back and explain to someone what you were told and they act like they have no idea what your talking about! I dunno maybe they don't? This happened with me one time with Cap1 calling EO office. Nonetheless good luck I'll be looking for your updated post!
