I did some research on these forums and the 14 day message has normally been either a fraud alert or a denial. If it's a fraud alert, you will most likely just have to talk to them and do some indentity verification.
I found this link that CreditCuriosity posted a while ago: https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do
Good luck to you!

I logged in and saw the new Magnet card everyone is talking about and clicked on it and said I was pre-approved. Applied and was given dreaded 14 day message. I called the application line and the gentleman said he couldn’t pull it up and that it had went to manual review and I would hear back 3-5 days. I have had my PRG and 3 CC with them the last 2 years or so so I have a good history.
I will say I did get my first Amex business card approved about 5 days ago so I’m wondering if that’s what triggered it. I have a 702 EX FICO per Amex. Just hope it doesn’t trigger a FR or something. I’m nervous.
Anyone else get the same thing?
I hope it works out ok, soon. Did you have a set apr or range?
+1

If it said pre-approved and not pre-selected (two big differences) then my bet, of course me not knowing your profile, is that it's a fraud alert. Maybe your recent business card spooked them into thinking someone is excessively opening up credit cards in your name.
I just hope if it is just fraud alert they dont do that annoying thing where they call you from a blocked number (knowing no one picks those up) to see if you pick up
Discover did that to me when I first got in with them I thought they were insane.
