I've tried a couple of times to apply for a new card at the American Express website. Once I complete the first screen the progress "wheel/circle" just keeps spining and spining - like for 3 minutes. Anyone experience this? Thoughts?

Apply over the phone? But first, make sure none of the apps went through.
Agree. OP you should check the AMEX application status page to see of the applications went thru
Fortuantely there's no record of my app., because I tried 3 times. Figured it was a server issue. Good deal. Will call. Thanks.

This happened to me when I applied a while ago for a ED. I called CS and they told me that my application was not on file. I checked the status of the application and nothing. I decided to wait 24 before to apply again. CSR confirmed that my application was never received.
The next day, I received an email that my application was approved, so everything could happens.

There was major spinning time for me during the approval process but it might have been a full minute at most. Actually the most agonizing minute of my life in recent memory.
AverageJoe, how did it go any luck?
When I applied for my cards I did the online app because I thought it would give me prefereance because I was a member, it really did seem to take a while probably like 60 seconds that felt like 6 mins, but I was lucky I guess.
Yeah, I called the next day and applied. Great customer service, as always. I don't think the online app form liked my Mac.
I applied yesterday online on my mac for a BCP. As an existing member it had the option to enter my card info or my online account info. I was waffling all day whether to apply or wait until I could see that my latest payment had been applied. The first time I entered my card info and it took me to a screen to fill out my info (or confirm it...maybe it was already there). I changed my mind and quit out of it. I put my card away and backed away from the computer. But an hour later, I decided to go for it. I tried to just use my online account, and it kept giving me a message similar to 'we can't complete your request at this time' and gave a phone number to try. I didn't feel like calling, so I waited. I was SURELY going to wait for today. But later, I grabbed my card and tried and got right in, no problem. Approved in seconds for the BCP. I don't know if the 'use my online account info' part was never working or if I just happened to hit the site when it was working twice when I entered my card info instead.
I had the same problem. Back before I was planning on applying I went through the application just to see what the process was, and that circle thing on step 2 (I think) just kept spinning and it wouldn't progress. I'd just try another day
