Re: AMEX PRG vs BCE Credit Required. Late pay

have her prequal on the site and if it pops up with a solid apr then she has a fairly good chance of obtaining the card.

I apped last month for the BCE and received approval for $500 w/ their version of credit steps.

data points listed in my sig, also with a most recent (1 yr, 2 month) 120 day late closed last year and PIF.

She doesn’t get any pre qualified offers. I am not sure if that is because of name change or anything or if it is a sign she won’t get approved.

$500 is at least a foot in the door. I hear they up creditnlines pretty generously.

I cold apped as I didnt have any pre qual offers and got instant approval but YMMV. I've had no pre qualms and been approved for and I've also had pre qualms and been denied. Pre qual doesn't mean pre approval it's an invitation to apply because some data points fit the criteria for the card.

if she isnt afraid to cold app I say have her go for it. she can either get approved or denied(doesent sound like it from her data points)

also another option to get in with amex would be the delta gold skymiles.  I managed to app for both and get approved for both within a week of eachother.  $500/$1k starting limits to get my feet in the door

@notorious thanks for the suggestion. IS the delta card an easier card to get? I know easy isn’t the correct word but that may be a better route. Plus we like to fly delta

No no prior relationship with AMEX.  Her Util is 10%, has 2 bank cards (cap and wells) and 1 retail card.  The late payment from 8 months ago is on a paid in full closed account and the one from 2 years ago is paid in full as well.  Will eventually try goodwill, but for now am curious.

Interesting you applied for PRG before the BCE, any reason?

I applied for the PRG first because I was going on some trips and wanted to take advantage of the cost to meet the sign up bonus.

Well wish I had good news. She was declined. Said will send letter explaining decision. Also made it available online. It had Fico 640. Said delinquency (2 30 day lates) age of accounts. Ratio of revolving balances to credit limit. And ratio of loan balances to loan amounts.

Really appreciate everyone’s help.
I don’t get it. Her 3 cards are 0/7500 0/1000 and 1060/1500 (cause 0%). She has no personal loans it’s student loans perfect payment history. Aaoa is 4 years. Needless to say she wasn’t happy with me.
