AMEX Pre-Qualified Offers - Experian Credit Score

Hi myFICO Family,

Background:

  • AMEX Gold card approved on 02/23/19 **I have a PIF AMEX CO from 2015 that i'm sure AMEX remembers Smiley Happy but still accepted me back into the family with a AMEX Gold WOOT.
  • AMEX Gold - Daily Driver
  • NFCU cashRewards - 15k CL
  • NFCU Platinum - 15K CL **Recently approved but not showing on my EX report yet. HP is on TU.
  • EX: 694

I have been patiently awaiting pre-qualified offers and FINALLY I looked today and I'm starting to get the pre-qualified language for some cards. I want the AMEX CM, but that card has not popped up with the pre-qualified language yet Smiley Sad. Below is my questions for the AMEX myFICO Gurus:

  1. EX score shows FICO 694 as of today but AMEX SP my report on 05/20/19 which had a score of ~689 I believe. Am I correct to assume AMEX will be using the EX: FICO 689 score for my SP approval??? **To see who SP you, pretend you're disputing a item in Experian  creditworks and select HP. Below HP you will see SP and the people who have SP you.
  2. If I'm pre-approved for one card and not the other is that a system "thing" or is AMEX telling me "hey idiot you're pre-approved for ONLY this card right now." ??

YMMV I know but from all of your personal experience!

THANK YOU!

Lol, people are obsessed with these offers. I always say, rightly or wrongly, you do not need a prequal offer to be approved nor does having one mean you can finally have an Amex. Sometimes people see im prequaled for this but not the card i want. Uhm, if they would approve you for that prequaled card, theres a good ch as nce they would approve you for the card you want.

Anyhoo, thats just my view. Congrats on getting one though, ive never seen one and im okSmiley Wink

Agreed with AJC. Prevailing opinion seems to be that the cobranded cards share roughly the same underwriting requirements, the charge cards share their own set of requirements, and the core revolvers share a third set. That would imply that preapproval for an Everyday would also lend itself to a Cash Magnet preapproval, or that if you’re OK’d for a Gold, a Platinum could as easily be had.

I’ve seen in my preapprovals that if I’m preapproved for one core revolver, I am for all the others. Likewise for the other two categories. I’ve never been OK for Delta Platinum but not Hilton Aspire, or good to go on BCP but not Cash Magnet. It’s all or none for me within the classes of cards.

If you have an Amex card and hit apply on your card of choice it should tell you if you’re preapproved or not.
