AMEX Prequalified Offer....HP or SP if accept?

This may be a YMMV situation and admittedly, I have never received one of these.  I'm helping my SO who already has 2 revolver accounts with AMEX and received this offer.

Curious if we ACCEPT the offer....will this result in a new HP or since AMEX accounts already exist will accepting this be based off a previous or new SP?  Trying to avoid INQ's.  Also, I noticed they provide a TU score though in my experience, AMEX had always pulled EX for new applications.

Any feedback on experience is appreciated.  Thanks everyone

Amex typically opens new cards using an SP for existing members. But, there's always the chance of an HP. I got one as an existing member. If an HP will be an issue, don't app.

My experience has been it could be either or.  So, like you mentioned (YEMV), but we're not AmEx running SO's profile for this offer.  So, temper expectations and if SP, great.  HP for such a great offer would also not be the end of the world, IMO.  Another item to keep in mind, at the end of the day, the new account (once it reports) is going to be weighed more than a single HP.

I've had AmEx since the early 90's and even with pre-approved offers, some approvals end up with HP, but a good majority have been SP.

Thanks @FinStar and Thanks @Brian_Earl_Spilner I really appreciate the feedback.  My own last app with AMEX was 2018 (no offer) and I have never received an offer myself so I'm glad I asked.  Thank you!

Anytime @cashorcharge.

I would say that unless you and SO are in the process of obtaining a mortgage in the near future, then that would be the only thing that would give me pause until mortgage is closed/funded.  Otherwise, it's such a great offer, I'd be all over it.  As in you'd be posting SO's approval in the Approvals forum 😀.  Obviously, up to you/SO to decide 👍

Not yet....oddly enough, we decided to proceed and then their system seemed to glitch...the wheel spun for 2 minutes with nothing.  Gave up, hit refresh and it stated we're having a system issue.

Logged in this morning...the offer was gone.  Cleared cache, logged in again...offer reappeared....click the link and this time another page came up and said we're having issues.  SO, either the offer was not supposed to be offered...and they're fixing that....or it is a legit offer but they can't process so we're standing by....I guess we'll see

OMG! This same thing happened to me except it was the AF waived offer with a bonus $100 for $1000 spend. I left it as I was unsure and came back later and the offer never re-appeared. I have called twice now and both times they say they will reach out to some random department to "escalate" but the offer has not come up since.

Yep @SecretAzure The offer hasn't reappeared so we've looked a few times here and there today but nothing.  I guess we should have pounced when we first saw it last night.  I'll make sure to update if it returns and we get through accepting!!
