AMEX Recon Possibility?

Good morning All!

I went for my 61 day increase on my AMEX Delta Gold and got the 7-10 day message, which I knew was a denial.  I hoped on chat and inquired as to why since I had been using the card responsibly and paying in full each month.  Plus I knew that my EX had gone up greatly since the approval.  I was told that it was due to my FICO score.  Fair enough.  When I got my letter the FICO score they listed was outdated and did not represent my current score.  With that being said, is it possible for me to call and ask for reconsideration?  Normally I would not even think of it but since their decision was based on an old score and not the current one, I thought I would ask the experts here for well...their expertise.  LOL  Please give me some guidance and insight on what I should do next, try for a recon (if AMEX even does those) or sit tight and try for day 91?

TIA

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

Sorry to hear about your recent experience with the CLI request. As far as possibilities, i would say, there's always a chance. And honestly, I don't even think it has anything to do with your score. But the fact that you were started off with a low SL, would mean they would want to get some history and gauge how you will be able to handle the account. When I got approved for the BCE, just like you, I was started off with a 1K Limit, tried on day 62 and was also met with the 7-10 day denial, stating that my score was the reason for it. I waited for the 90 days to pass post that denial and on day 91 I asked again and was approved with no problems. 3 mos. will go by quick, just keep using it the same way you do normally. I also attempted to have it reviwed manually through an analyst before and they stuck with their original decision. You can inform them about the outdated score, because I'm sure they already know how responsible you've been. They may just overturn that denial. Wishing you the best.

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

@Anonymous for the reply @Anonymous.  Yes, my story sounds similar to yours...approved with a SL of only 1K.  I think I will just sit tight until my 91 day comes and then try again since I have so much on my plate right now with attempting to refinance my car and other things. And you are probably right, it may have nothing to do with my score and moreso about them still being a little bit leary of me.  Sometimes I get tired of thinking about credit and trying to make all the right moves.  It gets exhausting.  Congrats on your CLI!

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

All I can tell you is that AMEX will grow with you. As everything else in your credit profile improves, your AMEX account will grow as well. They just approved me a few weeks ago for the new Blue Delta Skymiles with a SL of 15K, and that was a huge jump from where they started me off when they approved me for a 1K starting limit. So AMEX does recognize your responsible usage. You'll just need some time, patience with AMEX, if they're your preferred lender. Do anything in your capacity to make sure they see that you're worth it.

Wow! Congrats on that huge SL on your new Blue Delta.  That is amazing considering your SL for your other AMEX card.  Yes, patience is key and unfortunately I lack it but I am going to continue to do right by them in hopes that they will reward me nicely in the future.  Thanks again for sharing your AMEX experience.  It is inspiring.

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

Trust me, patience is not something that most of us have. But i am certain, AMEX recognizes your efforts in keeping the account in good standing. Keep us posted!

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

Amex is quick to reward good behavior. I started with a $4K BCE not even 5 months ago. I now have $47K in total revolving limits plus two charge accounts.

You'll be amazed at what a few months in the garden can do for your score.

Also if you're carrying any balances you'll want to pay those down before going for a CLI. Banks don't like to extend credit if it looks like you'll actually need it.

Re: AMEX Recon Possibility?

I'm essentially in the garden all the time since I am rebuilding.  I have a Cap One card, AMEX delta and one store card.  I'm really not looking to add anymore cards but would like for my current cards to grow in credit limits.  I only carry a balance on one card and it is not high.  The other two cards always report a $0 balance.

Didn't say that it always meant that but in my case, considering I was a boarderline approval, I had a feeling that it was a denial and I was right.
