AMEX denial & closure

I've had an Amex Delta card for two years that hasn't budged from a 1k line. Never approved for any other Amex cards or cli either. Tried for the Starwood card from an email offer thinking it might be easier to get, denied again.

Called for recon and any additional information, nothing doing. So called the delta number wanted 30 minutes trying to find out why the account will not grow, ended up closing the card. 1k on an airline card is worthless. When I was asked the reason I told the csr I'd rather use my costco Visa with a 4k limit.

I have much better results from Visa, mc and discover. AMEX is overrated.

Welcome to the myFICO forums!

Without knowing what your CR looks like I can not speak to why Amex did not give you any CLI nor why they would not approve any further apps. I suspect that are issues on your CRs that is preventing you from getting additional Amex accounts and CLIs.

Cosco's Visa is issued by Citi Bank. Mastercard and Visa are not banks, they are payment networks. Amex and Discover are banks and payment networks.

Your FICO credit scores are not just numbers, it’s a skill.

Re: AMEX denial & closure

Agreed. There has to be something in your report that AMEX doesn't like, or at least doesn't feel comfortable about extending you any additional credit. I had the same thing happen with Citi. The DC card I had was stuck at $700 for a year all the while other lenders were being far more generous....AMEX being one of the most generous in my experience. I've since cut ties with Citi due to the realization that they just simply do not like my file (and their political shennanigans). It's the nature of the game, not every lender is going to look at your report exactly the same. best to just deal with it and act accordingly.

Re: AMEX denial & closure

According to your previous posts, you were denied increases for high inquiries and high balances.  They were also IIB and whether or not this was listed as a reason for denial, I can't help but think this is the main reason.

Re: AMEX denial & closure

I agree with the other replies, in my experience amex has been very generous with CLI's. Like the other commentors have asked, what has your credit report looked like at the time of your requests for new cards/CLI's?

Navy Federal Flagship Rewards $24,100 limit
BOA Cash Rewards $3,500 limit
Amex BCE $29,500 limit
Amex Gold
Chase Sapphire Preferred $7,800 limit
Mattress Firm Card $9,700 limit

Equifax FICO9 Score - 804 1/3/2019

Re: AMEX denial & closure

I just wanted to share that amex is not all that impressive an organization any longer. Their customer service is non US based and not what it was 30 years ago.

Would a moderator lock/delete this thread.
