Did you app yet?
(Note: The above is neither a recommendation nor a solicitation of an application of the credit card being discussed herein. No, but I do keep looking at the screen shot of the pre qual.
My income isn't all that high - ok - but nothing to scream about....
Never burnt -never had an AMEX card in my life - even back a dozen years ago when my score was over 800.
part of me says try it - the other says NO WAY. Honestly am working for a mortgage and I have 4 cards that are pretty new....so part says GARDEN.

Depending on when you want to go for a home that is your biggest thing you need to consider.. I don't think the 4 new accounts will hurt you.. Just keep the home in mind is all, depending when you will seek that.

If a mortgage is on the horizon, definitely do not apply.

Just to add on...HP's fall off your report in 2 years, so for the cleanest report possible you shouldn't apply for anything less than 2 years before when you plan to get your mortgage. If you already have all these new cards and you don't mind delaying your mortgage a few more months then maybe you should apply; otherwise you'll want to stay away for a couple of years.

I don't plan on waiting a couple years for the mortgage. (have between 5-7 HP's depending on report) Original plan was to wait until next spring.....but there is a house on the market we are considering.....I just keep plugging away and keep hoping the house is still on the market......

In that case I agree with the others: I would suggest not applying for anything else until you've gotten your mortgage. GL by the way!

They stay on your report for 2 years, but only effect your credit scores for 1 year. But mortgage lenders will ask to explain the prior 90-120 days of inquiries and whether or not they resulted in credit. The generally accepted rule of thumb is try not to app for anything 6 months before apping for mortgage but it's not a deal breaker. As close as you are to buying, I say wait and then as soon as you get keys in hand app to your heart's desire!
