I was booking a room through Hilton Honors website when a preapproval for their AMEX card popped up. I ignored it and continued booking the room. Afterward though, curiosity got the better of me and I called the Hilton phone number. Their CSR told me that sure enough, I was pre-quallified for a card with an 80000 point start up bonus (3K spend in 3 months) and she offered to connect me to AMEX to apply.
The AMEX CSR found my pre-appproval and wanted to take my app over the phone. I at that point told him that I doubted I would quality with a FICO of only 621 but he said that that shouldn't be a problem I said OK and he proceeded to take my app. 25 minutes later he said he couldn't make an immediate decision and offered to connect me to an analyst. She then couldn't find the app that I had just completed with the CSR who had transfered me and needed to start my app over. I then told her that my score was too low. She said that it was borderline but that she would do her best. Another 15 minutes---DECLINED.
Nearly 3/4 of an hour plus a hard inquiry to tell me what I told them in the first place. I am officially perturbed.

Sorry to hear that. I know it stinks but you'll get there eventually. Did they tell you the reason for decline?
Baddies on report from 2013. I'm not as upset with them--I didn't think I would qualify-- as I am with myself for trying too early.
What did you have for baddies? I just got declined from AMEX for a CO car loan in 2014. My score was 628 ex when they pulled it.
