AMex SPG Low Limit Experience

First of all, dont judge me on my mini spree.  Smiley Happy

So was approved for the Amex Every Day (500 limit)and Delta Gold (1000limit) back in July. In October I requested a CLI on both - one by phone one by online and both were approved. AE 1000 and DG 2000. In December I had a preapproval for the Hilton card and was approved for 8k. I thought okay, great, now I have cracked Amex and was well on my way. The pesky preapproval message got me when I was looking at cards and I was preapproved for everything. I thought the SPG card would give me a high limit, but IU was approved for 1k.....wth?!?

I called and was going good until the guy transferred me to the CLI team where they told me I was denied and couldn't be considered until April. Exactly 6 months after my last CLI. This sucks because now I have to manage the account close to get the bonus and I have a new card with a low limit.

If Im following the threads closely what I gather my approach should be is the following:

Wat for 4/4 and request a CLI on my Hilton card hoping for at least double the 8k. Then spread the balance across my other cards to even them out and repeat every 6 months.

Just for free points, Amex is my lowest limit next to an 800 Barclays card that just won't budge. Everything is else is at least 10k with 43 at Penfed being the highest. I just have to wait it out with Amex I guess.

Re: AMex SPG Low Limit Experience

Sorry..

With Amex, no matter how many cards you have, you can only have a cli on ONE card every 180 days..

I would do a 3x cli on the card most useful to you.

It'll go up.  Use it alot and PIF.  I started with a Delta gold, Hilton Surpass and SPG all at 1K in late 2017.  I apped for Everyday early last year and they gave me 8k to start with. Same with Hilton Biz and Aspire cards.

Re: AMex SPG Low Limit Experience

Have you tried moving some of your Hilton card CL over to the SPG?
It may be too soon after opening, but, worth a shot. At least then you won't be close to maxing out your card trying to meet minimum spend for the bonus.

Amex usually gives out "toy" limits if you are borderline approval, too much exposure, or are at the amount they are comfortable giving in relation to your profile and or income.
