Accidentally app'd for Wrong Delta Amex

My fiancé accidentally app'd for the Delta Blue Amex and was instantly approved, but meant to app for the gold. They cancelled the blue app, and told her to reapply for the gold and it went to review.

Is this bad?

Re: Delta Amex Blue and Gold Apps

Since I've never done this, I cannot say whether is it or isn't bad. However, it does look odd and could be a flag raiser. People don't generally accidently apply for credit. Though I guess it could happen in the compare cards menu, and you click the wrong one.

Canceling a card so soon after approval? IDK for sure, but it's probably going to factor into your internal record somwhow. Such as the pop up for SUBs?

Was it a mistake because of the SUB, or the just card features? If so your Fiance could have likely upgraded later on, or just apped Gold seperately. There's no limit to how many Revolvers a person can have. Then just closed the blue at a much later date.

Guess you'll find out after the review, though you may need to call UW to explain the matter. Rather than the upfront CSR.

Re: Delta Amex Blue and Gold Apps

We are taking a trip this summer and figured it would be a good time to take advantage of the 200/1000 +20k SUB. She wasn't aware that there was a difference between the 2. She called into Amex and they are awaiting UW. They said 3-5 days for a response.

Hopefully a positive outcome, but I'm sure your fiancé will know soon enough.

FWIW, and since it appears the trip is on the long horizon, I would've taken the Delta Blue approval with the SUB, then about ~90 days, tried out for Delta Gold (depending on the featured SUB at that point). Then, downgrade/upgrade within a year depending on your/her travel plans or eventually combine CLs on both cards...or whichever strategy would work best.

Re: Delta Amex Blue and Gold Apps

My guess/prediction is that since they told you to do it this way, it will be fine.

But it seems normal to me that their automated approval algorhythms would through out the application if for no other reason than she just got a new card. My guess is they needed to process it manually.

2 apps in same day? Probaby want to verify some things, fraud and what not. Any other AMEX apps in the last 90?

Re: Accidentally app'd for Wrong Delta Amex

That's what I was thinking, 2 apps in the same day would throw up some red flags. It shows the approval online app status, and pending for the 2nd app. CSR told her they would put a note on the first app what happened.
