Addicted to Applying for Credit Cards - HELP!!!

I think it's a real disease. I can't stop. I get a rush every time I hit submit and get approved. I have 31 open credit cards now and it keeps growing every day. Help.

Re: Applying for Credit Cards Addiction

Ir probably would be a good idea to stay away from the forums and especially from the approvals section. Remind yourself that if you don't stop, you may eventually harm your credit by having your lenders take action against you for aggressive credit-seeking. I'm sure you would not want that to happen after the hard work you have done in building your credit.

Re: Applying for Credit Cards Addiction

I always figured that one would be self-limiting.  You get a bunch of hard pulls on your CR, your average age of account drops to under a year and then you start getting turned down.  Poof!  No ecstasy from approval.  But then maybe you need to go drown your sorrows.  Oops!!  Another addiction!

Set your sites on a card that is out of your reach. A card that will be good for you and that you will use.

A challenge which will force you to positive actions and decisions as you prepare for a real necessary card.

Good luck.

Yes, you need help. Lol. But in all seriousness, I dont see anything wrong with having a lot of credit cards, it's all about your utilization and whether you are responsible enough to handle it properly. I'm sure you have it all under control. Right?

I completely agree with this. I took a break from the forums for just this reason. I have no plans to apply for anything new at all this year. In fact, later this year I plan to close 3 or 4 accounts. Now that my credit file is in decent shape and I have more than enough cards, I find that I really have 2 or 3 'go to' cards. My spending behavior doesn't match the amount of cards in my profile.

In any case, I have no need for more cards and stepping away helped reduce the urge I had to apply. Now, I can hang out on the boards and not feel the need to apply for anything at all. I need to start working on those SP CLI's though!

More than enough credit.

Yes. I don't apply because I need the credit. I have $263K in available credit now, and never carry a balance. I just love the rush of being approved.

Definitely take a hiatus from the forum and find a hobby, no offense. Maybe instead of looking for more cards to apply for, perhaps focus on aging your existing accounts and even paring down your cards.

Re: Applying for Credit Cards Addiction

Smiley Wink I understand the "rush" my new hobby after applying for credit cards was opening credit union accounts to maximize future relationships for mortgage/auto. Also, maybe look into investments if you're into financials? And if any of your cards give you a free FICO score, maybe monitor your score and see it rise every month Smiley Happy
