Advice Needed: Sync app missing but hard inquiry

Happy Labor Day,

I submitted an online app for the Pay Pal MC and got the 7-10 day message. I called backdoor number the next day and spoke with about 7 agents in UW and CS and they’re unable to find my application. They say there is no record but I have a hard inquiry on my report. Heck, I don’t want the inquiry w/o the app. Any suggestions on where else I can call or how to get the inquiry removed? I know EQ will tell me to get letter from Sync bank and they’re telling me they cannot produce letter since they can’t find application! Any thoughts...

OP, this is likely pulling the trigger a little bit too early in the process even by any CFPB standards suggested above.

Honestly, depending where your application was processed, the agents you spoke with (even if you used a backdoor number) may not necessarily have access to the application, unless you were given a (1) reference number when the application went pending and (2) a direct number to contact them.

Wait for the letter since there's no possible way to get a HP without an application on record. These things just don't materialize from thin air. Unfortunately, if you legitimately applied for the card, then the HP cannot be removed.

Fair point! I will wait for the letter, provided I receive one, and go from there.

Lenders are required to provide you correspondence within a reasonable timeframe depending on whether it's AA (i.e. declined) or approved.

So, before hitting up the agency, let the process take its course. Hopefully, the 7-10 day response may yield something favorable.

It should have given you a Application Reference Number right after you applied online, with a number to call. It should have also been emailed to you. (I am currently looking at mine.)
