AmEx 3x CLI declined :(

I know I can be a bit hard headed about it but I think people read about the 3x and get inflated expectations, or simply end up with huge limits which is usually good, but can have downsides as I mentioned. Up to the individual to weigh pros and cons.

you're right about inflated expectations. you don't see too many people say "oh my chase CLI was declined" because that's expected. for every ONE chase CLI denial post you'll see 30 amex 3x CLI denial posts. people's expectations are boosted and inflated and they forget that risk analysis is still a factor and just because you handled your $3k limit responsibly doesn't mean you automatically deserve a $9k limit.

I like Amex's 3x CLI sure beats the 0.2x CLI I received from cap1. It's nice to be able to carry a 3k bal and retain a 10-20% usage. Thats where the worth is. OP good luck in 90 days.

Sorry op. First the 61 day rule does not apply anymore. May i ask what was your limit in the first place? Reason for asking. If it is a 1k-2k limit. Chances are Decline on first couple of attempts. if higher. then im surprised.

Edit. After reading further in the thread. i see you had at least 3500 limit. wow. Yep. as others stated. Try again in 90 days. I was declined my 181 day 3x cli. next time. i will just ask them to round it out at 20k. and not go for 3times. not even 2 times. but almost.

Yeah, I started at $6k. I didn't know the 61 day rule was dead. What's the new policy? I had seen some people getting their increases earlier but I didn't want to risk that.

But if new to Amex, I would still wait at least 1.5 months.

update:
submit my CLI request on 7/17, got 7-10 message, thought was declined, no email, no post mail, no calling.
log on AMEX site a few minutes ago, my SPG credit line has been increased to 20K

Sorry to hear.  They hit me with the same thing the second time around.  They have been a bit stingy lately.
