AmEx Prequalified Cards

I am not currently looking to app for another AmEX card but I am just curious about something. My question is about the prequals.

If I sign in to my account and click on the "cards" option then go to check for prequalified card offers, does this mean that the three cards showing are prequalified offers? Since my BCP PC simply had a button that said "accept" and all of these say apply, I assume these aren't really anything more than normal apps for new cards.

I only have a single card with AmEx and my BCP PC showed up on both my account page and in email but none of the cards on the prequal page have shown up anywhere other than on the prequalified page. Can somebody please explain the "prequalified cards" with AmEx to me?

Re: AmEx Prequalified Cards

The three you're seeing are being promoted. It's marketing. To see where you stand for qualification, click "apply now". If it says "SirMilo, you are preapproved!" the odds of being approved if you follow through are quite high. If it says "Expanding your membership with us is easy, SirMilo" then it's not a prequal. You may well get the card anyway but you won't have that reassurance when submitting the application.

Thank you much for the explanation @Anonymous .

I figured that was the case but wanted to try to get confirmation.

Re: AmEx Prequalified Cards

Just for kicks, I decided to see what it would tell me after @Anonymous told me what I might expect to see.

I suppose this is comforting even though I won't be apping for it since I will never put enough spend on it to pay the AF.

AF basically pay for themselves!!!, but look into the gold card if your looking into getting a charge card.

Re: AmEx Prequalified Cards

I seem to be  preaproved for all the cards but the problem is  that everywhere I look online and even on amex website is the gold card is 4k over 6 months to earn welcome bonus but when i login to my account it will change to 4k  over 3 months. so why would they offer the world 6 months and me 3 ?

Different promotional offers. If you qualify for gold, you can try apping for an offer you see thats for 6 months. I can agree though it is weird because I do see the same offers youre talking about where its spend X amount in 3 months to get XXk points while on experian credit match and other similar sites you see it is for 6 months. I also used to see it for 6 months before being a amex member.

Thank you for clarifying ☺️
