Amazon Visa and Synch

Hello,

A couple months ago, I opened the Amazon Store card. It was my first approval after having a year of credit history. They only approved me for 1200. I was really shocked I got approved and figured why the hell not and I applied for the Amazon Visa, I ended up getting approved for 2500. I have been using the Amazon Visa as my daily card and I have yet to use the Amazon Store. I am not sure if I should leave it open or to just close it now. If it got closed due to inactivity I am not sure how my scores will be affected by that. Should I spend on it and PIF then close the account to at least show that I made a payment on the account.

Any input is welcomed!

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

To me the Store Card is more useful since I do most of my shopping at Amazon anyway. I love it because of the no-interest options on purchases $149 and higher.  I don't think the Amazon/Chase Visa has that option.

OH -- and to answer your question, closing it should not affect your credit score except perhaps on utilization. The account itself will remain on your report for 10 years so you don't lose anything now as far as AAoA.

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

I would keep both if I understand these are your only two cards. Use Amazon store card for Amazon and the Visa for your other spend until you build your credit more and get other cards. Amazon VISA is a Chase cobranded card, use it wisely and it can help you get better Chase cards in the future, IMHO.

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

Closing the Amazon store card will only affect your credit if your using it for utilization padding. If your not carrying balances then its a non factor. Why don't you just use the card once every six months or so then you won't have to worry about them closing it. Also if it's the prime card, its far superior to Chase's card, for Amazon purchases anyway, so why not just use it for Amazon purchases.

The Chase Amazon card is worse than the store card in every way.

+1 for the store card. The earnings are better, and the ability to finance large purchases at 0% interest can't be beat. (We just bought a new mattress this way.)

I also have the Visa with a $6k limit. I plan to keep it for use during the holidays; however, I might change my mind about keeping it if Sync raises my paltry limit later this year.

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

I would definitely keep it. No AF, easy growing limit, good for uti, and good benefits for Amazon shoppers. If you applied for it, and got the HP and the card, just keep it.

I believe the store card requires you have Prime. That is a cost of $99 per year.

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

The store card doesn't require prime to have the card, prime is needed to get the 5%. So if someone doesn't have/not getting prime the visa can be better than the store card, really depends on the person and their spending

Re: Amazon Visa and Synch

Agreed. Store Card is better for Prime Members but if you don't want Prime the Visa is better.

Store card No Prime = 0% cash back
Store Card with Prime=5% cash back

Visa with or without Prime=3%

Visa has no no interest promos tho.
