American Express 14 day message

I applied for an American Express gold card on the 10/13. I got the 14 day for a decision message.

I called them up today and it ended up being that they needed to verify I actually made the application. I think it was because I just opened an everyday with them 5 days ago.

Even though I verified my identify they are still saying it will take them 3-5 days to make a decision.

My EX score which was pulled was 690
One collection account paid in full from 2015

Do my chances seem favorable? Or is the 3-5 more days even after verification the kiss of death?

From what I know/seen Amex likes 700 plus but if you have a history with them before or a thicker file you may just need the verifications

If I’m not mistaken, the 3-5 day message is indicative of a manual review.

Does the manual review typical increase of decrease your chances given a pretty average score.

That’ll depend completely on the strength of your profile. You’ve already been approved for a core Amex revolver so that bodes well, as the charge cards are typically seen as somewhat easier to be approved for.

Verification was triggered because you didn't wait long enough to put in the 2nd app.  The 3-5 issue is the timing issue as well because typically the system with auto reject 2 apps in a short period of time.

Just wait it out and check your online account or app for the new card to show up.  If it fails then wait 90 days and try again if you really want to pursue it.
