American Express 2nd Card

Hey peeps,

I just got approval about 2 weeks ago for my AX Card with SL 500.  I've got offers online now for AX Delta Skymiles and 2 other cards, before it was saying no offers.  My question would be how long should I wait before applying for a 2nd card.

Bummer Denied on 2nd card.  Inq and High Util was cause. I'll try again in 2 months.

A credit card account balance is too high in relation to its credit limit. (Experian)

Number of accounts with high utilization of credit limit. (Experian)

Proportion of loan balances to loan amount is too high. (Experian)

Thinking about calling in to Recon.  Don' t know if it will help or not tho.

Hi Scott2696. Sorry about your denial. Did they do a 2nd HP? If not, I would just get your utilization down as low as you can and try again in a few months. They will be monitoring your CR now that you have a card with them and you will see more card offers from them really soon.

Wouldn't bother with a recon to Amex. Getting a denial overturned with them is hard unless the reasons for denial have changed.

Hey OP, i know this is after the fact,  and very much  "Monday morning quarterbacking," but if your initial Amex approval was for only $500, it means you BARELY meet the Amex underwriting criteria.  Definitely put some use and perhaps try to grow your current Amex before trying for a 2nd Amex.

Thanks everybody.  You all are correct a recon does no good as once it's denied its denied.  They will cancel every app after that inorder to avoid running another HP.  They advised to correct the things on the report that caused the denial before trying again. Which in my case would be the high UTLI.   But on a plus side I'm in and it will grow in time my AX Blue and eventually I'll get the Delta Skymiles later on once I take care of the other.

Yup, your in like Flynn. Now use your one card, being down your util, and let your score rise a bit. When the time is right im sure they will hook you nicely
