Hi All,
I recently applied for, and was approved for a BCP with American Express. It's almost two months old. Today, I applied for the Hilton Aspire card and during the application process, they required me to link my bank account. I was about to click on continue when my laptop battery died.
I quickly plugged in my computer but unfortunately I was not able to get back to the original application. I logged onto my account and did not see anything about complete your application. I also went to a link I found for the application status page and it shows in progress (or something like that), but it still will not allow me to access the original application so that I can complete it.
Any suggestions on how to get back to the original application or do I just have to wait for them to send me something saying it's not complete. It's been about 45 minutes since this happened. OR will they just deny it because I did not complete the bank link access information. I definitely did not want to start two of the same applications.
Thank you ever so much in advance, and I appreciate any feedbak that you may have. Especially if any one has experienced anything like this.
They will send you an email in the next day or two with a link to complete the bank link or to upload documents. Make sure the bank info will match your application data. For example, I have several bank accounts and one of them on their own can't verify my income info that was stated on my application. If possible, you may need to upload the statements from all the banks in this case. When doing a bank link they are looking at the most recent few months of deposits, overall transactions, and average balances.
Keep in mind, this data is shared across AmEx. So if something doesn't match, they could make changes to your BCP.
Hi tbgothard!
Thank you for responding! I appreciate the information.
When I applied for my BCP, I put the low end of my income, and did not include any of my bonus pay, so I'm hoping that I will be okay in regards to income, actually they will see a lot more than I put on my application. I show high deposits each month but the only thing they may ding me on is that I pay out a lot each month helping family and my kids in college and things of that nature. However I still have a decent average daily balance.
I do not carry a balance on my BCP but like I said it's still new, so they may still be concerned. I like being a part of the Amex family, so I'm hoping that they do not ding my BCP.
Normally, I would not allow third party companies to have access to my bank or spending habits, but I guess, for now, if I want their card, I have to play by their rules.
Again, thank you ever so much for your help!
You can also access the chat button and they can send you a link or provide additional information. AMEX is pretty helpful and understand issues happen.
Update ...
Thank you so much for the responses.
I received a link last night to upload my 3 months of bank statements to. I uploaded them right away and got an immediate 14 day message.
This morning I received another email saying a decision had been made. Unfortunately I was declined. When I viewed the decision online, basically they said that I have not been a member long enough. After all that they did not even mention the bank statements. Lol!!
No worries, I understand, I really am new to Amex. I will just try again in 6 months or so.
I have had a similar experience with Amex applications. Typically, if you cannot return to the original application online, then it means it did not fully submit or complete the process. In some cases, Amex will not approve the new card until all of the required submitted information is fulfilled, such as needing to link your bank directly to them.
What I would do is wait a bit longer (sometimes a few hours to a day) for the information in the system to be updated. While you are waiting, you might want to keep checking your email (and even your spam/junk) to see if you received any follow-up requests or confirmation messages from Amex.
If you do not hear anything after 24-48 hours, I would recommend calling their customer service and asking if they can check the status of your application. They are generally quite helpful in these circumstances and will be able to let you know if your associated account application can be located or if you need to restart the application process.
Fingers crossed it will go smoothly on your end; good luck!
They'll email you a few times and even give you a countdown a day or two before the app expires. Ask me how I know LOL. I have several cards with Amex and refuse to give them (or anyone else) bank statements so when I get that "we need more info from you if you want this card" BS I just ignore it and let the app expire. Then wait 6-12 months and apply again and usually get the card without the silly shenanigans. ![]()
I think Amex did the same with me once when I asked for a CLI on one of my business cards.
My rule is, "I don't jump through hoops for banks."
UPDATE:
I called in the customer service to ask a few questions on my current card and they mentioned my prequalified offers, which I had been ignoring since I had decided to wait about another 6 months or so after the most recent denial. The offers were the Hilton Aspire, Delta Gold and the Marriott.
I let her know that I had already applied and had been denied due to my membership being new. She suggested that I should try anyway. Since my Experian FICO and gone up from 740 to 763, I decided to try again. I was hesitant but she said it would be a soft pull and I had nothing to lose. So I went for it and was instantly APPROVED with a SL of $3700. I was shocked!! I don't know what changed other than the small jump in my FICO, but I'll take it. It's not a large SL, but it can grow overtime.
Thanks again everyone for the responses.
