Hoping someone can verify/answer the 2 questions below. Im a current AMEX customer. Thanks.
1. When applying for a new Amex, it is a HP if approved and SP if denied?
2. If approved for the card but I choose to decline will it still result in a HP?
Rep on the phone could not verify APR or SL without running credit and couldnt answer either of the 2 questions above.
Normally wouldnt apply without being willing to take the card, but this is my final app of the year before going into the garden and have a standing approval with my local credit union who is offering a low APR/BT, weak rewards system, and standard $5K SL. Thanks.

1. When applying for a new Amex, it is a HP if approved and SP if denied? - Normally that's how it works but some people have reported HPs even when declined.
2. If approved for the card but I choose to decline will it still result in a HP? - Yes, it still will be a HP

I figured that would be the case. Thanks Irish.
OP, you should be sure you understand:
Apping for ANY credit card results in a HP, unless you are declined the AMEX, and there is no "decline" option after you press the Apply button.
Many posters come on here intending to not activate a card, only to realize / find out that the HP has already been done and there's no magic undo button available.
