Just approved for the BCE with a $500 SL. Amex was my 1st CC more than 30 years ago and I burned them somewhere along the way for 5 figures. So they're wary welcoming me back ... okay, I don't balme them. Question: should I bother apping a 2nd card today since I've been already charged the one EX HP? I suppose the green card but I'm not sure I see the value (especially with me having, presumably, a tight internal limit) for $95. Would I get enough limit on the other cards to be able to earn a SUB (without paying weekly or more often)?
Thoughts, AMEX maestros?

Unfortunately, there's no method to predict what AMEX will do in your specific situation.
Given that you were just approved for $500 (instead of a higher SL from the get-go) gives an indication that AMEX isn't ready to approve you for another revolver. It's possible, although not guaranteed, you could get approved for a charge card. However, that being said, why apply for something that would not provide a tangible benefit in the long run? How would the Green stack up with the rest of your other CCs?
That's exactly my thinking. The green doesn't "appear" to offer me benefit vs. other CCs I already have. But I don't know the Amex rules well enough to assess any long term benefit -- ie, can this card be used to upgrade, PC, combine, etc.
So I'm asking if someone sees something I'm not, please chime in. (you guys and gals know all the ins and outs)
Here's an exactly similar situation...draw your own conclusions.
There's no guarantee that Amex will use the same credit pull.

The Green charge card cannot be combined with any other product. It can only be upgraded to PRG or Platinum when any offers become available.
That being said, the AF also increases with any upgrade. However, any sustainable benefits you'd get with the upgrade would largely depend on your usage of the card and lifestyle. IME, I'd rather apply for any available product when a decent SUB becomes available, such as the 100K MR offer for Platinum (vs. upgrading).
Quite sensible. No green card for me. Thank you, FinStar.

Dang! I'm sure glad I posted this question -- I came THIS close to just apping it anyway. Wow! Your post should be a sticky somewhere.
Thank you M&B!

Well, your EX FICO 8 score is 47 points higher, so that could possibly make a difference. There's only one real way to find out.

No thank you. I've already found out everything I need to know.

I wouldn't take the chance either. Just too risky for my blood. As much as I would want to though. If there was a card that is worth it then possibly. But the Green one doesn't really have the rewards in comparison to the AF. I would wait for a better SUB for a better card. Congrats on getting back in though.
