Well, your EX FICO 8 score is 47 points higher, so that could possibly make a difference.  There's only one real way to find out.

No thank you. I've already found out everything I need to know. (that made me chuckle.)

I wouldn't take the chance either. Just too risky for my blood. As much as I would want to though. If there was a card that is worth it then possibly. But the Green one doesn't really have the rewards in comparison to the AF. I would wait for a better SUB for a better card. Congrats on getting back in though.

Agreed. Too risky for too little reward is the consensus. I will wait for better SUB to come along as you suggest. Thank you, x.

In 3-4 months you will have pre-approvals for almost all (if not all) Amex cards with all their standard signup bonuses.  After being turned down for the Green card in August the PRG was approved in December and because of Amex membership since 1995 the CSR doubled the MR bonus to 50,000 points.

That's good to know. Thank you. Question: must the membership be continuous?

You actually never lose membership.  When you get your new BCE card is should have the "Member since" date as the year you originally signed up for American Express.  Unfortunately Amex stopped back dating your actual credit history with the CRAs a few years ago so you'll lose out on that part.

Yeah, I already registered online and it says "since 1984" -- what a hoot! But you say that will qualify me for extra goodies?

It could if you call them.  When I signed up for the PRG the public SUB was 25K MR points but was then changed temporarily to 50K a few weeks later.  I called the number on the card and asked the rep if there were any other bonuses I qualified for.  According to everything I'd read on Doctor of Credit's site; Amex doesn't match bonuses so I was prepared to fight my case but the rep gushed "Of course, Mr. MaizeandBlue, because you've been a member since 1995 I will double your bonus to 50K MR."

I also tried to get the double bonus with my EveryDay card but I had already completed the SUB spend and the award was already hardcoded into their system.  The rep told me if I hadn't yet completed the spend they would have been able to adjust the SUB.  Its always a good idea to call them periodically to see if there are any unadvertised bonuses - like retention bonuses - that might be available.  In my experience they tend to go the extra mile to help long-standing members.

Great intel, Mister MaizeandBlue! I will try that. Thank you.

Re: Amex Apping Question

Be aware that AMEX does not always give the benefit of member since...I don't know how far back they can reach, but 1979 is evidently too long ago as I closed my AMEX charge card then (3+ years of perfect payment record with them at the time) and when I opened my first new card with them this year I got a Member Since 2018 on it.

Its not always automatic but if you ask for your old "Membership Since" date to be added they will do it and issue you an updated card.  Your request will be sent to the "Back Office Team" in Tampa who will research based on your social security number.  Once they confirm that the old membership since date is correct, they will send you a new card.

+1

@Jimp2323, I had the same experience when I first came back to Amex, but subsequent cards have my 'old' date.

If your old date is shown when you're logged in you should be fine going forward.  If it's not, then reaching out to Amex customer service should do the trick, but as others have noted it's only cosmetic these days anyway.
