My bk7 discharged 4 years ago, Amex is included and I'm in the blacklist.
Having a higher income and trying to improve my credit score as well as getting back with the big creditors, I am ready to send a full payment to Amex with hopes of to being allowed to apply soon. I want to believe that if there is any bargaining chip, it would be the fact that I have not paid yet. I think being able to get something in writing from them, some type of assurance that I'd be allowed back would be ideal, but I don't know if it's possible. Have any of you tried something similar?

I don't really know that I would want to try to use outstanding debt as a bargaining chip. I mean they can just turn around and sue you for the money and have a solid case to do so because you expressed ownership of the debt and ability to pay the debt but withheld it to try to get AMEX to let you back in.
A lot of people find that when they have paid AMEX back, they get back in quickly. I mean you're paying off a debt that they realistically had very little chance of actually ever recovering in full otherwise so that is reason enough to give you another chance. You would still need to satisfy their credit standards obviously but the blacklist is gone once you've paid them.
took me 10 years (2009). Charged off on two AMEXs (both totaling 5-8k). Did not pay anything back.
went to the preapproval site last month, and the Cash Magnet showed up with a couple of others. I selected the Cash Magnet and was approved.
I think they have (maybe) lossened up on the black list deal. 9-11 years ago the finanicial crises affected a lot of people's credit card relationships, just the way it was. I think the CC companies looked at this event as unique, and they have adjusted their risk models to account for it.
Many of those customers that burnt them back then are rebuilt from a credit standpoint today, and are worth a new releationship.

Hey Scattering_rodd, I haven't called them yet. Even if I paid them off today, they would not let back in until my BK is 5 years old. I've been told that is their policy on this board. I'm gonna call them after the holidays to set up a payment plan. What's the point in paying them back right away if they won't let me back in for another 3 years. I'm also not that credit worthy right now. I have 15 new accounts in the last 2 years and 17 total inquiries on all of my CR's. My scores aren't great also EQ 680, 675 TU, and 671 EX. I'm working on cleaning up my inquiries and working with a company to clean up all the creditors that were included in my BK. At least you only have a a year to go before your BK is 5 years old. I've read that they will do a 24 month payment plan. Also, since we both have BK's we don't qualify for the Optima Oasis card by Amex is what I read on this board also. How much do you owe them? I only owe 2,459. Honestly, I'd rather give them 103 a month then give them 2,459 all at once. I'll post my results from my call with Amex.

Once you pay back Amex in full, you will not be on their blacklist. You are still subject to their credit approval criteria.
One thing to note. If the debt was BK and you want to pay them back, they make it very clear that payment is voluntary and they make no guarantees of any future approvals. They are cautious about accepting payment on a debt that was BK for legal reasons.
My friend paid back a debt to Amex and after the 5-year post-BK, they were able to get a card with them.

Did your friend pay them in full or make payments? I know that's a hard rule with Amex, that your BK has to 5 years old or older.

My friend paid the full balance owed but I am not sure if he paid in a lump sum or installments. My guess is lump sum.
