Amex CLI's on multiple cards - no go apparently. Treated as one.

Something I had never noticed before, but I just got told that I am not eligible for a CLI on my Amex Delta Gold because I am within 6mos of having gotten a CLI on on my BCE.

Apparently your Amex account is counted on one clock, not each card seperately.   That just made the delta card essentially "worthless" until at least next year when I'm done growing the older BCE.   Delta only has a toy SL of 1k on it and I don't like charging more than 10% on anything... $100.  not worth using really.

kinda surprised I never noticed this mentioned by others (I'm sure it has, I'm just not being attentive)

Lol, this has been mentioned here on the forum ad naseum, lol if thats the correct sayingSmiley Wink ). Amex will grant only one cli per 6 months over entire accounts. So if you one on lets say a blue cash, you are not eligble to cli it or a different card for 6 months.

Lol, i tried right before New Year to sneak a cli in on my Blue Cash Everyday as im boycotting cli attempts in 2018, haha, Amex said not enough 6 month soup for meSmiley Wink

The one-CLI-per-181-days-across-all-accounts policy is mentioned all the time. You should be able to easily move some of the BCE credit line over to Delta online, and you could move it back prior to asking for the next CLI on the BCE. Even if not making charges on the card, it’s not worthless as you still get the benefits like 20% off in flight purchases and free checked bag for you and your entire entourage.

I'm sure it has... which is what kinda "amused" (?) me in some way.   For a lack of better phrasing   - I've had the flu for a week and communication is not my current strong point.

I knew that there is no way this hasn't been mentioned a million times and for whatever oblivious reason, I've completey glossed over it.

the 20%, baggage, lounge access and etc is actually why I even have the card - so no, it's not WORTHLESS.  probably better to say it's more of a an access / discount card until it's actually grown.    I have a lot of travelling to do this summer, which is what I got it for anyway

Is your Delta not on a "steps" program?  I orginally was approved (same day) for BCE ($1K) and Delta Gold ($2K).  When I was approved I got an email for the BCE stating that if I paid the mininum due for 5mths that I would receive and auto CLI.  So with that I only requested CLI on the Delta and like clock work my BCE was raised to a whopping ($2K)...so on my next 6mths I will work on the BCE since the Delta G is now $18K.

Just thinking there might be an auto in there somewhere and the 6mths doesn't apply to autos (which of course is  mentioned in super nifty Amex CLI megathread).

I'm not in any steps program.   All in all it's not a big deal in the end, I have plenty of available credit.   Just a little bemused that I've been so unaware of such an obvious requirement on the part of Amex... I'm usually pretty detail oriented, down to now I have to go through and adjust all my calender notifications for when to make CLI requests. lol.
