I had close to 200k income and 700 FICO score when I got both of my Amex revolvers and I got 1k starting limits on both. And  1 percent utilization. I think they don't like derogatory stuff.    A year later with my Experian FICO at 739 they are only up to 5k and 2k.

I heard they're really stingy with the revolver limits though.

I'm hoping my chances will be better with the lowest publicly available charge card.

Honestly, with as much as work has me traveling, the Platinum would have been genuinely useful and I wouldn't have minded the annual fee, but I thought there was no way in hell they'd actually give me the platinum, even if it made them more money off me to begin with.
So, fingers crossed for a Green charge.

No they aren't stingy.  My wife has the same income reported as me and they started her out with 25k.   Seems like they like people with clean reports.

Well, that probably rules out a decent SL for me if I apply with them next year then (BK and all).  *sighs and, once again, scratches Amex off the 2019 want list*

They aren’t stingy at all with SL’s

My fiancé got approved for 13K and it now sits at 39K a year after approval.
She could probably have asked for more but she didn’t want it. Her Income was around 65K at approval and just graduated from college 2 years ago.

I was approved for my Delta card with a 610 EX and several baddies. 2K SL. Now at 6K
My ED was approved for 6.6K. 755 EX clean report
Income reported was 68K as I’m a recent college grad as well.

Total Revolving Limits $254,800

See, that's really strange to me.
I've got a little over 3x that income 20 points higher on EX, and only two baddies totaling 935 USD (200 of which, an entire baddie, paid in full as of today. No PFD though... Smiley Sad   ), and 4 years of rock solid payment history....and double denied.
Maybe they just didn't believe my income levels? You'd think they'd ask for proof at minimum...

Online, it still shows as In Progress, but the call center guy said "there was just no way, bro", so I have no clue what Amex is even doing now.
Oh well. Dude said wait 60 days and try try again, once my report fully updates, so that's the plan!
Thanks y'all, you were all a huge help <3
I've lurked this forum for like 3 years, and I'm glad I finally signed up proper.

Re: Amex Chances (Meh Credit, High Income)

And to follow up the tail end of that last note:

I've finally gotten my **$^ together, and it feels pretty good (and y'all were part of my inspiration!)
My debt 0 date (excluding my car loan) is August 15th, and I've managed to budget so that that's set in stone.

All baddies paid in full. All credit cards at 0 (and then I'll be able to carry a very very small balance of normal bills on my highest limit card which gets paid in full at the end of the month).
I just needed the kick in the pants to get my credit problems under control.

<3

(and I know I've totally been 100% first world problems in this thread... sorry. I let things get out of hand back in the days when I had to choose between rent and eating and my credit cards were the only way I could stretch to make ends meet. Now that those days are long gone, I had 0 excuse to continue slowrolling my way to a 0 balance.)

Re: Amex Chances (Meh Credit, High Income)

I would let the accounts age a bit, give it a month or two so it shows stability, normally I'd recommend atleast 3-6 months so that when a lender pulls your CR again, they see that you paid off everything. Also, the impact of most things being cleared on your CR, usually take 2-3 months to show depending on how long it takes to report, hence why the 3-6 months. In the end, it's upto you. Also +1 on the sense of humor, I'm a NYer so we east coast people generally seem abrasive and obnoxious at times!

Scores - All bureaus 770 +
TCL - Est. $410K

Yeah that's basically the plan Smiley Happy And don't apply for anything I'm not pre-qualified for to be safe.

Jersey's pizza is better. Come at me bro. Smiley Tongue

In general I think the rest of the country finds us a bit abrasive, but whatever.
Luckily, my boss is from PA, so he gets me, and backs me up if I chew someone's head off at work.
Funniest thing is, I get to combine that attitude with a thick as molasses southern accent, and it really really throws people off.

Re: Amex Chances (Meh Credit, High Income)

Not trying to necro the thread but I figured I'd report back to everyone Smiley Happy
Thank all y'all for the help!

I succeeded on my goal timeline, and as of today officially carry the Amex Platinum as well as the PRG (for that 2x points on groceries and gas)!

Success!
