Amex Confusion / Question

I recently applied, and was approved for, Amex Platinum.  I then immediately tried for a Cash Magnet and was denied.  Current exposure with Amex is the Hilton card from the Citi conversion at the beginning of the year and the Optima from YEARS ago. The denial letter for the Magnet showed my old Amex credit score of 680.  My updated score is 740, however the card isn’t showing up in my pre-qual screen.  It’s been 11 days since I applied for it.  I get a pre-qual offer for BCE, ED, etc...but not the Magnet.  Any ideas on how I get to re-apply for this card, or have it show back up in my list?  I would imagine I would get an approval for it with the other pre-approvals I have.

If, for some reason, I have to continue to wait for the Magnet what would you all suggest for my next card?  Really looking for something with a high initial CL so I can balance transfer the last of my CC debt and get that all cleared out.  I’m thinking ED for the $0 balance transfer fee but, after looking at a LOT of posts the past few days, it looks like BCP or BCE are getting higher SL’s?  Thoughts??

Thanks all!

Re: Amex Confusion / Question

What were the reasons cited for the denial? What combined CLs do you have with your existing AmEx revolvers?

Worth noting that any SLs would be driven by your overall profile and existing AmEx relationship.

Re: Amex Confusion / Question

It seems like the Magnet is a bit touchy as far as preapprovals go. I had it on my prequals for awhile, and then it suddenly disappeared. As for SL, there is no card that is a guarantee of a high initial CL. Like another poster said, your current relationship with Amex may dictate your SL. Personally, between the BCE and ED, I like the BCE better. The cashback is great and more straightforward than membership points. It really boils down to what kind of rewards you're looking for.
