My interpretation of being 4506-T'd on an application is that you are approved pending IV. However, the details of how flexible they are with IV do matter. I have read many cases of denial where the numbers on the transcript do not match the numbers on the application, so I would prepare for that, and be very pleasantly surprised if you are approved. Regardless of this app outcome, for future apps I suggest always using an income that can be verified on a prior-year tax transcript.
Not to stay siderailed, but what about people that do not file taxes? Until last year, I had not filed taxes in 10 years (yes, employed all those years, just did not file due to ignorance and fear).

@Anonymous In that case, one can file their taxes for the previous 6 years in order to be complaint with federal law and 4506-T forms would generate tax transcripts for those tax filing years. If one's income is so low that it is below the requirement for federal filing, then filing can still be done even if no tax liability were due for those years. If income was higher than the minimum amount required for federal filing, now would be a good time for a reminder that the myFICO Terms of Service prohibit discussion of illegal activities.

I'm grateful for whatever the outcome. An approval is preferred of course, however a denial is also a point of knowledge and reference to be approved on the next go around! I am hopeful for an approval though

Not worth it for a credit card and most would not know that whole process nor probably put the effort.
By the time somebody even outs in all that effort, they would be denied and the HP already wasted.
Plus paper returns (all back taxes) are not being processed, so kinda moot right now, and still leaves many people disadvantaged when there is zero recourse.

I know a lot of folks fear or have issues with the request for 4506T/tax transcripts, and that's okay, I totally understand and can appreciate such concerns. However I will say for my situation I would definitely comply. There's two lenders that I'd be willing to do such for and that's Amex and Citi. I have an unhealthy love for my Membership Rewards and ThankYou Points.
I probably wouldn't for any other lender simply because I don't value them or their program enough to do it. I can enjoy this hobby very well with just Amex and Citi. These two loyalty programs has allowed me to do some amazing things and travel to equally amazing places. I've done things with their loyalty program I'd never spend my cash on; they bring enough to the table for me to provide such info.
I know lots of others don't share this same sentiment but for me the perceived risk is worth the reward.

While one may consider whether it is worth it for a credit card to be subjective, some more objective reasons would be to receive refunds due for prior years, or to avoid future penalties, liens, seizures, revocation of passport, or fines/imprisonment. While the IRS is not issuing direct deposit refunds or accepting electronic filing (although this can still be done by some tax preparers) for years prior to 2020 (and neither are being done for 2020 prior to Friday), returns are being processed in the order in which they are received - including prior years.
Hey OP here with an update...
Between Amex sending me 3 different 4506T forms to complete, each time they sent me an older version, by the time I sent the correct and final version to them, I was denied due to "unverifiable information". Hmphh, go figure.
Anywho...no sweat. I am about to garden for the next 6 months, with a New Auto Lease and NFCU Secured card under my belt, along with my other accounts. Hopefully I can get into the AMEX ecosystem via NFCU at my 6 month mark with them and add on a gold/platinum soon after. My ultimate goals with AMEX are their business cards, but I'm guessing (through my research here) those are much easier to qualify for once you have a personal card.
Thank you all again for your input and I hope this helps someone in their journey!

Good luck with the chase OP, I hope it works out. You mention getting in with Amex via Navy - that's actually not a way in. The NFCU "Amex" is actually a card fully backed by Navy, which just runs on the Amex network. It's not actually a card underwritten or backed in any way by American Express.
I don't recall seeing a post, but have you made one listing out what factors on your reports are holding your scores down? Maybe during the gardening period, some of that can get cleaned up and you can boost your scores. Amex pulls EX F08, but they may SP a second bureau as well. If you list out your derogatory information, we may be able to help you clear it up. Your odds on getting in with Amex improve a lot above 650.
Oh! That's good to know! I'm looking forward to unsecured with Navy, but AMEX is my ultimate golden goose. Where should I post the thread detailing my report? I would appreciate the input.
TIA!
