Amex Delta Gold

How solid are Amex prequals?  I check my prequals from time to time on various sites.  I just checked Amex and got a prequalified for Amex Delta Gold.  35k miles, $0 membership first year ($95 after that), $50 statement credit after a Delta purchase.  Single number APR %, not a range.  I've never seen a single number APR on a prequal, though I did get a 3 number range when I got my Cap1.  My EX jumped 10 pts over the weekend, so I'm curious if that is why.  At 626 EX, which would be on the lower end of the scale for Amex, if possible at all.  However, I would use the rewards so this card would be advantageous for me, as I am a very frequent flyer (both Delta and United).

Thoughts?

Re: Amex Delta Gold

Screenshot of what I'm seeing.  16.99% APR.  This is the screen that pops up when I click "view card details" on the results page.amdg.JPG

Re: Amex Delta Gold

Well, I app'd and got the 14 day message.  Should I immediately call?

Likely approved but if you have any accounts with high utilization > 38%, I'd pay those down and wait a cycle.

Amex lost a lot of customers when they broke up with Costco.  They lowered SOME underwriting standards for SOME cards but approve people for only $500 limits for 6 months to let them prove themselves or hang themselves.  The $500 "credit steps" style starting limits do NOT get the 61 day 3X CLI.

Re: Amex Delta Gold

Amex pending status, is usually a verification thing if it doesn’t decline the app almost instantly. You would get an email immediately if t was declined.

I got the Delta Gold at 610 EX with 4 collections. So you should be good. Also got the same 14 day message as you. They needed address verification. I would call them and ask

If your interested and had Prequalified Offers for charge cards as well and those would fit you as well. If you app in the same day. It’s just one hardpull

Re: Amex Delta Gold

I called the 800 # and APPROVED!  They wanted address verification.  Starting on a $1000 SL, but I am ecstatic to join the Amex family!  My very first rewards card.  While I definitely wasn't planning the app, I am so glad I randomly checked the site and submitted.

@shadowfactor

Does it have to be the same day to not get the HP? I had a pre-qual for the PRG which I was approved for and just got my card (apped on 12/22) and now I have this exact same Delta Gold Prequal. It's a better bonus and I would rather try to put $1K spend through in 3 months for 35K then $2K through for 25K

Re: Amex Delta Gold

I meant to respond on the charge card piece as well.  Delta Gold was the only prequal I had, so I didn't app any charge cards at the same time.  At EX 626, I am on the lower side of their approvals anyway.  I don't think I could get a second approval for a charge card with below 630.

Re: Amex Delta Gold

For the hardpulls to be combined. They must be done on the same day.

So if you applied today for the delta card and we’re approved. You could apply for the PRG and they would use the same pull. If you do want the PRG and app’d today for the delta and we’re approved. There’s no harm in trying for a PRG. But if you didn’t app today. And there’s no Prequalified offer. You might get the card but that’s a risk you have to take.

I app’d for the Delta and PRG on the same day. Score was at 610 EXP. had Prequalified Offers for both. Was approved for the Delta after address verification. Decided to cancel the PRG app since I didn’t think I could hit the spending bonus with being out of country for work for 30 plus days and Amex coverage there was horrible.

Got my delta card and decided I wanted a new IPhone X. Met the spending bonus right there in the first 2 weeks

About 25 days after app’ing I was more interested in getting the blue cash then the PRG since it doesn’t have an annual fee and the PRG does. So tried to get blue cash. Declined at 631 EXP. when I was doing the recon for it. The rep was talking to me and asked why I cancelled the PRG app because I was really approved for the card, they just wanted address verification.
He was telling me that the value of MR points and getting 2X MR points was about the same as 3% cash back on Groceries plus PRG had double points on restaurants and Gas. The annual Fee was waived for the first year and I really got the annual fee for free the 2nd year with 2 years of airline credits.
He told me that I wouldn’t be approved for it for 30 days since I was just declined for another card per policy.
But he then said he could get around it by just continuing my previous app and doing the address verification. Did that and was approved.

Now I hardly use my Delta Card, I got the bonus and I buy Starbucks on it twice a month. My PRG is my daily driver except when I’m outside the US. Love the card.
If the Delta Bonus wasn’t so good I would have probably picked the PRG right off the bat.
I got 50K miles and a $150 statement credit with 1K spend on Delta and only 25K on PRG.
